Yeah, its a decent store. They are a specialty store, so they carry feeder insects and frozen rats/mice etc. for snake keepers.
Shipping costs is one of the reasons that ordering online isn't my favorite.
I have heard that compared to Dubias, other roaches are great escape artists. So stayed away from them mainly. My local store does carry hissers though.
Will look into Mantids. Thanks for the heads up.
Will check out both Butterworms and Phoenix worms. Quick question, do they smell much? I like feeding Hornworms to my Cham because they don't smell at all.
Thanks for the complement. He's much more prettier in person but when i pull the camera out, the tail curls up and he turns darker.
Up until recently, I used to feed my Jackson's Chameleon (Thakoor) Crickets, Dubia Roaches, and Hornworms as staples. All 3 are available locally for me. I would order Silkies online once every month or 2 and feed them on ocassion.
Now the issue I am running into is that my Jacksons' doesn't...
Along with paper, If you can put a few twigs/branches in there, that'd be good. I know my Chameleon likes to have something he can grab onto and feel secure.
I a plastic per critter carrier with papertowels on the base, a few Manzanita twigs for the Chameleon to hold onto (They work great) and...
You can try and make a feeder box. Run a few searches on the forum and you might come across some "how to" guide. Or you can take a look at how I made one and construct a similar one. It does a good job. Crickets, roaches, etc like to climb up the wire mesh and stay there. My chameleon knows...
Flukers Cricket diet isn't the best for gutloading. Its crappy ingredients I believe. Ideally you want to either make your own Gutload using veggies and fruits (you can search old posts for which veggies and fruits).
If you want the easy way out, you can do what I did, Buy Rephasy's Bug...
My Jaksons' Chameleon would do the same too. Instead of directly misting him, try this - Get some warm water (not scolding hot) in a misting bottle and start with spraying down the cage (leaves, vines etc.)
Slowly start having some drops fall on his tail and eventually start working up his...
My Jacksons' Chameleon isn't a big fan of Dubias either. I think its mainly because they don't move around as much as crickets. He'll eat them, but he'll take his time.
Which actually is a good thing because I put Dubias in his feeder box if I am out of the house for 3-4 days. That way, they...
I actually order silkworms once every couple months.
The good --> They are great for your chameleon
The bad --> They have no immune system and tend to die off quickly if you touch them with unwashed hands or use any utensils that aren't cleaned. Also they poop (legit term is FRAS) a lot. A...
Did he take the warm misting well? or did he run away. Just keep experimenting. see what works for you and for him. Ideally you want to see him lap up water droplets falling on his lips. Just make sure not to douse his nostrils with water. That'll open up a whole another bucket of worms.
When...
Well Dubia Roaches aren't known to be good escapees (unlike Hissers, that can supposedly climb out of everything). But if a $5 Sterelite tub gives me peace of mind, then so be it.
I have the same setup for the Cricket Keeper in which I house my crickets. 0 escapees so far (atleast from what...
I keep my Dubia's in a Cricket Keeper. I don't breed them, I just pick up 20-30 mid sized ones from the local store every 2 weeks. It works out pretty well. They like their darkness so they just hide in the pipes all the time and come out in the night to eat
I actually keep my Cricket Keeper...
Well i dont know about grumpy. i have a jacksons chameleon, and unlike a panther, my chameleon doesnt like climbing onto my hand at all and will go the opp. direction on a regular day.
However my chameleon usually stops eating a few days prior. He will go after hornworms and will avoid crickets...
