thank you so much! i wish i knew this before i set up his enclosure lol! i really appreciate your time and advice, and i will definitely put this into action once my guy recovers from his load of parasites (still waiting on the test results to come in, but i still think he may have a load)
yes, when i first got the branches, i thought there would be less organisms when the bark is removed. so you would suggest fresh cut branches rather than the sterilized/bark free ones?
make sure the basking bulb isn't too close to your cham!
chameleons gape to cool themselves down. overall, it is completely normal, but make sure the temperatures are not too hot. especially for a smaller cham, no hotter than 80 at basking!
the sticks that i have already are from outside.. i feel that replacing them will cause the same problem again. and i do not have a heat gun unfortunately. thank you for the help though, and maybe it would be possible to find a chemical that isn't too strong for my chameleon.
i thought of using a strong chemical like prevent-a-mite then washing his enclosure down completely right after. would this work? or would it be harmful?
this has been going on for about two weeks now. i tried replacing and cleaning branches but they keep getting worse. it makes my heart break seeing all of these gross bugs on my chameleons. ive read that it doesn't hurt them, but it still feels completely wrong to leave my chameleon living with...
i honestly thought it was a joke when i read it.. chameleons are so obviously not amphibians; to think that their tail just falls off and regrows?? absorbing water through skin?? ridiculous!
yes of course! variety is great! just make sure the worms you are feeding him every feeding are good staple worms.
i do not feed my cham any crickets. instead, i do black soldier fly larvae, roaches, and the occasional superworm/hornworm
hi! i am no expert but i have heard that babies usually do not need any heating bulb at that age. make sure it's not too hot! id say 80+ may be burning him.
also, did the vet mean just body size or body plus tail?
hi guys! i noticed that my cham doesn't eat as often from his feeding bowl. it seems like he gets "bored" and only eats food that is frantically running around. he mostly eats from my hand, and rarely from his bowl, which is a struggle for me because i am usually busy. is there anyway to get him...
no substrate whatsoever! for most keepers, we leave a bare bottom. it makes it easier for draining and also no bacteria build up. for lighting, use a linear T5HO UVB bulb. use a 5.0 because the 10.0 could be too much exposure. it should run the length of the top of your screen. for the heat...
hi guys! should i cut back on the amount i feed him since he is now a juvenile? his body (no tail) measures 4 inches. i am thinking about getting him a fecal test from rainbow mealworms as well.
this enclosure is really great! the live plants really make all the difference lol, and im so happy you were able to improve so much after your last set up!
