I know many people who use normal desk lamps for heat bulbs and compact uv bulbs. As long as you do not use a ceramic as mentioned above and do not go over the wattage it says for that fixture it will be fine.
I don't know much about all lighting aspects, just enough to get me by when choosing my uv sources.
One thing I will say just because a bulb puts out more uv it will not cause eye problems. Problems will be caused when the ratio of light is wrong.
I use 12% HO T5 bulbs on panthers and...
Nutrobal isn't great for them. They need calcium on every feeding and giving nutrobal every feeding will be giving too much D3 and vitamins.
I use the schedule mentioned above and it has worked for me for a good five or six years.
That sounds like a good temperature gradient to me. A normal 5.0 uv bulb will be no good in a cage that height. I would be using an Arcadia T5 HO 12% uv bulb for a cage this size.
You could have went for the Arcadia T5 12% vivarium canopy but at least you have an Arcadia 6% T8 which is about the same as a 10.0 Exo terra bulb and lasts much longer. I am in the uk too so if you need anything uk specific feel free to pm me!
The arcadia bulbs are the best out there. Many people are switching to their new T5 uv bulbs which last a good 12 months if not more and give out lots more light and uv compared to the exo terra and zoo med bulbs.
Personally I hate CFl bulbs with a passion! I wouldnt use them at all. Eye...
A screen cage would offer more stable humidity
Remember chameleons do not need constant high humidity. They need a couple of peaks of high humidity throughout the day to stay healthy.
I was just explaining to someone the different brands of uv bulb and how long each lasts. I have always read and been told Exo terra bulbs need replacing every four to six months. I know they have had an overhaul of their uv bulbs and they now say they will give off good levels of uv for a full...
I have used the 12% T5 bulbs on beliefs with great success and now on my panther pair.
I would change to the 12% and see how they react. As long as the cage is setup correctly then they can hide from uv if they wish or be directly in it.
They can't really get too much sunlight as they can control how much 3 they make from the uv rays.
There is still some UV in the shade so being in the shade will still be good for him.
Zoo med and exo terra bulbs last 4-6 months , arcadia a full 12 months.
I hate compact bulbs with a passion! they offer little uv over a very small unnatural area and are known to cause eye problems. In the wild a chameleon would not be restricted to a 6 inch radius under a bulb to receive...
I agree with the post above apart from the uv part as it is not correct. No uv tube gives off too much uv and no tube available comes even close to the sun. In reality a 10.0 bulb does not give off double the amount of a 5.0 bulb and really the 10.0 would be closer to what chameleons would eat...
Gutloading really well with fresh veg will add water content to feeders for them. Silkworms have quite a high water content. I have never spryer feeders with water though.
