Chameleon wont eat anything but crickets

My chameleon will eat nothing but crickets. I throw in mealworms and even silk worms. Tried putting them in a cup, and I also tried letting the silkworms climb on branches for a more free ranging effect. He won't even touch them. He just waits for me by the screen to throw the crickets in, then...

    cage settup

what i actually did was cut some screen mesh and made a cover over the plant, so he'll stay out of it. I wrapped all the sharp edges with eletric tape. I will probably end up putting some organic soil on top just incase.

    Information on UVB Hood

I had a question on UVB lighting for a 24inch wide cage. I recently just upgraded from a 15inch to this new 24 inch all screen cage. The top UVB Hood Canopy was an 18 inch hood. Do you guys think I should upgrade to a new 24 inch hood? Or would I be ok with the original 18 inch.
