...aim to match captive conditions as closely as possible to the environmental patterns chameleons evolved with. Hydration, lighting, diet, enrichment, it’s all part of building systems that support long-term health and behavioral fulfillment. I’m not satisfied with setups that simply keep a...

    Is this considered stressful?

Tons of keepers here give their chams free roam time! It is enrichment for them and gives them good exercise. You just need to be mindful of safety and UVB. Although he is basking in the sunlight, UVB can not penetrate glass. The only other risk I potentially see is his little nails catching on...

    praying mantis?

I think using praying mantises as feeders is a really interesting idea! It can provide enrichment for your pets and is a natural way to introduce variety into their diet. As for where to get them, Invertopia could be a great option to explore. They're known for their wide selection of...

    Help me! New chamleon owner!

Touching on number 3: I’ll give you my lived experience, my life has gotten a lot easier since programming a mister for my Cham, and it’s less stressful for both of us when the hydration cycle is automated. They do take just a bit to set up but with some planning it is not too bad. They are a...

    BSFL turned to a moth

I just leave them be in the same con tainer where I feed the larvae with veg in the coco coir. Once a week add more larvae for a steady supply. Eventually the coir gets soggy ( but never smells) so I dump it on the garden for enrichment and start a new batch.

    Replacing my old heat lamp

I absolutely love to hear that our beautiful and spicy veiled ladies are living a healthy and enriched life! Way too often it’s the poor veiled girls who have the harshest and shortest of lives. I would most definitely read your blog about your sweetie and it may be of help to others who rescue...

    praying mantis?

...question though. I hatched out several ootheca in the past without any issues and since I’m currently battling soil gnats again, think I’ll be getting some more ooths to hatch out. I was going to try mosquito bits, but mantids not only helps the gnat problem but gives some chameleon enrichment.

    Veiled Only Wants "Junk Food"

...you tried? Black soldier fly larvae (bsfl) is a great feeder and I like to let them pupate into flies to give my chameleons some hunting enrichment. Even my older girl who no longer shoots her tongue more than an inch or so enjoys hunting the flies and she does catch them. You’ve had your...

    soldier fly larva confusion

...I ordered many more (500 in January I think). Seems like it’s been months and months. Finally had some pupate into flies, which is what I wanted (flying treats to provide enrichment and stimulation) and still have plenty squirming around currently. It’s like the never ending container of bsfl.

...polka dot plants, tradescantia zebrina (I see you already have one), etc. Having a free range area is awesome and gives a nice bit of enrichment for him. Like most animals, chameleons enjoy looking out windows. Just be mindful to keep watch of him, as they are much quicker than we know and...

    Enrichment Ideas?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody had any out of the box enrichment ideas. I have a close to a year-old female veiled chameleon who loves to explore and roam around. Here’s what I’ve done for enrichment: 1. Add new plants and branches to her enclosure (I’d like to redo her enclosure at...

...I have all of mine bioactive and they have been doing very well. They all enjoy hunting their isopods at times, which I see as natural enrichment for them. I make sure to have a thick layer of leaf litter and some good sized cork pieces for the isopods to hide under and eat. Just make sure to...
