    Panther Chameleon Burn 😞

I let him out of his cage one day and the direct sunlight was hitting his branch. I’m still curious how this much damage happened through a window.. needless to say I will be looking for a vet to take a look at him as soon as possible. I’ll post an update :(

    Height on male Veiled Chameleon

That isn’t really what we go by when measuring where to have basking areas in relation to uvb light. Since you are using a 12% rather than the standard 6%, you want to have a distance of about 10-11” between the light and basking area. Raising the uvb 6” is a lot because then the basking branch...

New To Chameleons - Adopting a Previously Sunburnt Male Veiled.

I was able to get a bit more information out of my family member! Not only is he no longer under a red light, I found out what he was treated with for the burn (months ago): they "fogged him with F10 and treated with colloidal silver."

Dose this chameleon cage look fine

I would do it sooner rather than later because if the light is too close and he decides to hang upside down on the screen, he could burn his toes or belly.

    Probe Thermostat Heat Lamp

I use 2 probes because baby Bolt enjoyed screen climbing. 1 on the top directly under the heat lamp and one on the side, 1 inch above the basking branch. However Bolt never uses his actual basking branch. He basks on a branch that's 3 inches higher than his basking branch and off to the side...

    How to stop this?

Here is part two. Hopefully work won’t call me away again. Cage Info: Cage Type - Screen. Lighting - Dual bulbs. ReptiSun 5.0 UVB with amplified heat. What do you mean, “amplified”? Daylight Blue Basking light. Every morning I turn them on, every night I turn them off. You want a 12 hour...

New person with a new chameleon

The basking temp of 85 is for an adult male. We keep the little ones and the girls at a cooler 80. Yes, there is still a high risk for burns because until they are fully grown/too heavy to continue it, the little ones can and will walk upside down on the screen top. By the time they feel the...

    Possible injury?

Would you recommend lowering the branch and switching to a regular incandescent bulb?

Skin issue help - burn? Fungal infection? Or just bruising?

Hello all, Today I noticed that my veiled, Rosie, has these light discolorations with black spots on her one side. There are also little blister-like areas of her shed - she just started shedding recently - but they’re dry. The discoloration and spots are not raised. I’m concerned that it is a...

    Calcium with d3

Ok so all the fake plants you want to take out of the cage asap. Those are a major impaction risk. Then add your pothos. Also you want to upgrade him to a 2x2x4ft cage. the one he is in is just too small now. With the UVB if it is a reptisun bulb you want to replace that bulb with a new on...

Dose this chameleon cage look fine

Looking at the size of your chameleon, I’d add a few thinner branches as well. Also worried that it can get under the basking light and maybe burn itself. Have you tested the warmth at the closest spot that it can get to the light by placing your own hand as close to the light as you can under...

    First post

Yeah it is why I will not use the spot lamps... I have seen them actually cause thermal burns because the heat is so focused and hot. I just use a regular incandescent white round bottom bulb.

    Zoomed Iguanarium

Remember UVB bulbs have a burn in period. The first few weeks they are stronger. So yeah if he could get closer than 8-9 inches then he is going to be in much higher UVI than he may tolerate.

Dark spots on chameleon. Could it be burns?

So the other night I was looking at my chameleon, and I saw black spots. The next morning they were gone but once I put him on his tree, they were back. Could this be burns from his basking light? They are mostly on the top of him but a small spot on his side. If better pictures needed, I can...

I need help telling the age of my veiled chameleon!

She looks really close to the heat lamp. Young Chams screen climb and often burn their casque and spine due to the heat lamp. I suggest raising the heat lamp higher or lowering the basking branch. The more experienced people here will give you more specific advice regarding the temperatures...

    Enclosure suggestion's/review

Hi! I appreciate your tip on the metal basket! I bought a riser from Petco that just isn’t very sturdy. I was going to move the branches down just a tad bit. And also the shower curtain idea is brilliant- I was looking at sheets of pvc but that would be the easier route. My office does get down...

New To Chameleons - Adopting a Previously Sunburnt Male Veiled.

Now for your questions... Questions: Would you recommend a lower than normal basking branch due to his burns? Basking branch should be 9 inches down. But you want a low wattage bulb that is a regular incandescent white bulb. I would start with 40-60watt. Test temps... basking at branch should...
