    praying mantis?

Yes, they eat fruit flies and pinhead crickets until they grow big enough for other bugs. Right now I hope they are getting their fill of soil gnats and their larva.

    praying mantis?

...in a large cricket keeper and kept them very well fed, so any cannibalism was at a minimum…I think. I was thinking of letting them hatch out in my chameleon enclosures, but that might result in my little hunters chowing down on all of them in one bite and no soil gnats being eradicated.

i forgot to ask you, but when you had your mantis’s in the chameleon cage, did you ever see your cham eating them? or were they too tiny to see

    praying mantis?

...be a concern. It’s a great question though. I hatched out several ootheca in the past without any issues and since I’m currently battling soil gnats again, think I’ll be getting some more ooths to hatch out. I was going to try mosquito bits, but mantids not only helps the gnat problem but...

    Phantom leaf eater

That’s something I’ll try, if i can find them cheap, here in uk mantis are pets and not feeders so can pay $15 for one 😅. Cleanup crew get fed leaf litter, veg scraps, and isopod powdered food, they are thriving tbh, I had troubles at the start with them keeping up, but they’ve bred a lot and...

    praying mantis?

I’ve never had such a problem with soil gnats like I do now. It’s crazy. The cursed things are all over. I have a big bag of mosquito bits as back up if the mantids can’t kill them all.

    A couple questions about feeding!

...chameleons who are able to hunt them. While I don’t do it every year, I get mantis ooths to hatch out in my enclosures (helps control the soil gnats) which my chameleons have enjoyed hunting down. This is the time of year the ooths are available if that is something you might want to do. I...

Getting rid of fruit flies? Any ideas..

...I have Mosquito Bits. I am not sure if it will kill of my clean up crew, so I am hesitating using it in my enclosures. I have used it in my back up potted plants and had an almost immediate reduction in flying pests. It is supposed to kill only mosquitos and soil gnats and not beneficial insects.

    Chameleon skin pests

I honestly can not really see them well enough to tell anything. You can get soil gnats in cages but these are harmless to chams. Depending on what you used for your cage set up you can bring in tiny mites from the trees. Most only go after the wood in the cage and die off because they do not...

    praying mantis?

My first ooth hatched today so cute little mantids. I feel bad to put them in one of the chameleon enclosures, but these dratted soil gnats are about to drive me insane. I put them in with Lucky, who doesn’t shoot his tongue out more than a few inches, so they have a decent chance to survive a...

    Mosquito bits and pj’s

I’m so over these soil gnats! They are everywhere, including flying into my mouth! 🤢 Tonight I made the rounds with mosquito bits tea and can only say a little prayer for the isopods and springtails. 🙏 I got started on it late, so my crew was all in their pj’s and tucked into their sweet...

    Hydrogen peroxide and chameleons

Seems to me like there's probably something else in that spray because I use hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip to kill mealy bugs and it's never smelled. Perhaps it's the quantity used, but my guess is something else is in the spray. Maybe rinse the plants in water to rid them of the smell? As...

    Plant light

Thank you all. I will look for the Jungle dawn. they died due to gnats once I got a new plant to put in his cage from Lowes, the only thing that survived was the pothos. I'm working on getting his plants healthy again, I've been able to grow a pothos, that is still too small, and a Spider...

Fungus gnats ,will mosquito bits help?

I have fungus gnats that started in my orchid collection and now seem to be in Eustis plants. now Eustis never goes to,the plant pots nor does he eat anything other than bugs, not gnats. Can I use mosquito bits in the soil of his plants? I plan to use them in the orchids.

Fungus gnat issues and potential dehydration?

currently I have a fungus gnat problem that probably originated from my chameleon's live plants, since that was where the majority were flying around at first. Basically, I think the problem happened because we recently (like a few months ago) rearranged my chameleons enclosure and right now...

Fungus gnat issues and potential dehydration?

If you want immediate short term relief of the fungus gnats you need to dump your potting soil outside and get all new soil. But they WILL come back so for long term relief you need to get some mosquito bits. It kills mosquito and fungus gnat larvae over time. But you have to stay consistent...

    Is he chubby?

Thank you for taking the time to respond to all my info! What would you recommend for a free range? I’m very paranoid about him falling. I worry about EVERYTHING 😅. We don’t have trees here really that don’t have sap.
