Will repashy calcium plus make up for plain calcium w d3 or should i still dust with d3?

I only dust with repashy.

Only time i dust with anything else is when my female is getting ready to lay ill add a bit of extra calcium into it.

as far as i am aware, the repashy should make up for everything.

Aaah ok will do ...so should i stop dusting with plain calcium and only repashy cp ...cause rite now I'm doing repashy cp like 2 or 3 times a week and calcium almost every feeding...

The calcium plus should take care of all your calcium and vitamin requirements for your animals. It's a nice, well rounded supplement - got lots of good stuff!

As suggested already, you don't need to supplement quite as frequently as you have been. :) One to two times a week should be enough for most situations.

Calcium Plus has the same levels of D3 in it as most other Calcium +D3 supplements out there.

Definitely do NOT use it at every feeding. I and several others have had chameleons become very ill and/or die several months after starting on Calcium Plus (it takes time for the vitamins to build up and cause a problem). It was originally recommended by "experts" to be used at every dusting as it says on the label and that's what most of us did.

However, Allen Repashy chimed in on a discussion I started a few months ago over my concern of several of my animals dying and said it may not be suitable to be used as often for chameleons. I still believe it was the Calcium Plus that killed them. I lost 9 chameleons, 3 dart frogs and 2 day geckos all to the exact some problem which seemed to be kidney failure.

I no longer use it as frequently and have had no deaths since. The few animals that were looking ill turned right around and were fine just a few weeks after stopping with the Calcium Plus.

I would suggest once a week at the very maximum. I use it 1-2 times a month. It is a superior product but it has been marketed to us in a harmful way so don't overdo it.

Edit: it was also suggested by some members that the better care you take of your chameleon, the more problems Calcium Plus will cause. Gutloading, good UVB bulbs, and a varied diet gives them so many nutrients already that adding Calcium Plus to the mix just causes toxicity and buildup to occur. I would agree with that. If you are only using one feeder, never change UVB bulbs, and don't gutload, you may want to use Calcium Plus a little more often, but I would still not do it more than once a week in that situation.

I will also say that the other 9 chameleons I still have are what you would call 'picky eaters' and did not eat as many bugs per day as all the chameleons that died. Meaning they got less of the supplement over those several months and never had the buildup issues.

There are variables, you just have to be aware of your situation because what I do might not work for you and what you do might not work for me.

wow so much conflicting info out there on this. I just got baby from Kammerflage and they sent me a bottle and told me to use it everyday. I had questioned that if my chameleon was getting outside time every day for quite a few hours and it contains d3, then wouldn't that be harmful or overkill? They said no. I am especially weary because of the fact that I live in FLA and all the natural sunshine my chameleons get. I think I will stick to my original supplement routine and maybe throw in the repashy every couple of weeks.

Kammers were the "experts" that Repashy used in his trial period to formulate the product. They raised chameleons side by side on their traditional supplements vs. the Calcium Plus. They are directly involved with the successful marketing to and use of this product in the chameleon hobby.

Sandra brought this up in the original discussion: No one knows what their care regimen is, how often they dusted, what variety of feeders the used, etc etc. There are so many variables in their care when you may compare it to yours.

I understand what you are saying. Like I said I am going to go with my situation and what I think is best. I don't think using a product with d3 everyday when you have a chameleon outside is the going to be a good scenerio. My one chameleon I do not even supplement with d3 period. He lives basically outside when weather permits and I do not see the point in giving artificial ingredients when you can get them naturally! I Thank you for your input on this. I appreciate it!

I have been using calicum plus on every feeding for over two years now with no issue's. All my Chams are thriving......My feeders eat better than I do;)Thats the real key!

I personally would not use that every day. The ratios are still high. As you can see Sandrachameleon agrees. What Sandra says is worth it's weight in gold. :)

would you use it every day if you primarily housed your chameleons outside?. I worry about the d3.

The only d3 I use is with the Repashy cal+. Like you, I house my boys outside quite a bit.

I use the Repashy cal+ 2-3 x's weekly. My gutloads consist of bugburger, dinofuel and assorted fruits and veggies...

I'm so confused now:(

Anything we can help clear up?

Probably what causes confusion is that there is no single way to do things, there is no hard and fast rule. There are a lot of variables - type of chameleon, sex of the animal and whether its breeding or not, age of the animal, whether or not it goes outside and/or type of UVB lighting, what type of feeder prey you offer (some need supplements, some dont), how you gutload, etc.

I think your plan is a good plan - I wouldnt provide the Repashy Calcium + everyday even for an indoors chameleon
It's just way more than necessary, IMHO

Thanks for the vote of confidence ! blush!

But mine is just an opinion, not a rule.

And I think I should note that I have nothing against the Repashy Calcium + product. I think its a good product, one which I myself use (I also use Mineral-O by Sticky Tongue Farms and other things). However I personally - again just my opinion - do not think Repashy Calcium+ should be used daily. Weekly is plenty. IMHO supplements should be supplementary - your chameleon should get most of what it needs from a variety of prey types all properly gutloaded.

I was always skeptical of it being recommended for everyday use. Too much of a good thing makes it a bad thing. Interesting to see some reports of possible problems with it now that it's been on the market longer. I got some myself but only use once a week at most for my panthers and veileds and my Jackson got some gular edema shortly after starting to use it on him so I excluded it from his regimen altogether. I still use regular calcium without d3 primarily and then the repashy once a week or every other week. Good gutloading is still the best imo.

True..... i do live in oregon and my chams do stay inside for the 7 cooler months..I just have not had any issues since making the switch. I dont cake it on i give the bugs a light dusting
