Hi everyone. I finally completed my new chameleon enclosure. Additional pics can be seen at http://dragonbreeders.com/parsonii/enclosure/

Thanks for looking.

wow the rolls royce of enclosures!!

you should start building pre fab kits and selling those, you'd make a ton

how non toxic are the products you used on the wood though?

hats off to you man very nice, I would love to have one of those to display in my house

Thanks much! For the wood I used Minwax water based stain and sealer. Completely safe once dry.

It really was not hard to make, just far more expensive in that I thought in the end...

That looks great Lou! Very very nice workmanship. Now, let's get that filled with a pair of parsonii!!!

Can you post a few more pics showing the outside of the enclosure? I'd like to see the whole thing. I may just have to copy that ;)

Very nice. One apparent flaw is that there is no reflectors behind the florescent bulbs. Reflectors can add incredible amounts of UV utilisation from the bulbs. But thats an easy fix with some metal flashing.

Yes, I agree and am considering your suggestion. Can you please give me some examples of what type of metal to use? Originally I thought that the white plastic above the bulbs would reflect enough light but I have not been satisfied with the current levels of light. Any suggestions would be great and thanks.

One more thing...how are you going to feed the chameleons? If you free-range the insects won't they get out?

Its a beautiful cage!

Thanks Phatturk!

Yes, there is removable plexi panels on the sides. Like the Titanic, this cage is supposed to be cricket-proof.

I used to go free-range with crickets when I first started, but found that since they can hide for long enough periods of time to become un-gutloaded, I moved to cup feeding. I used to use a long, rectangular flower box hung at mid-level in my previous parsonii cage so that the crickets could move back and forth, which enticed the cham to get some exercise, and provided a way to keep track of how much the cham was eating (and verification that the animal was getting appropriately gut-loaded food).

The only thing left now is to find some sort of reflective metal to install above the reptisun tubes...

Lou,
You can buy mylar sheets and simply glue/tack the mylar on the top of the enclosure above your lights. Its very easy to work with and almost as reflective as a true mirror. Here's a link to a supplier. It generally isn't sold in smaller sizes that this roll, so you'll have a ton extra, but its pretty cheap.
