Panthers Cost

So I just purhased a veild cham and I love him like a son!! I was showing my fiance the member gallery and she loved the panther chams. So I was pricing them and I found out that they cost a whole lot more than my veild did and I was wondering why? Are they more difficult to have or to raise?

I think it's based almost purely on their beauty, and the many locality variances you can get. They're not any harder to breed and raise than Veileds, so that's out of the question.

Veiled seem to produce more eggs per batch than a panther (unless the panther is overfed). But I believe its primarily basic economics, supply and demand. More supply of veileds, more demand for panthers.

They are beautiful and I really would like to find one that is not 500 dollars =]

Yep supply and demand, economics 101. However if you want to sacrifice quality and risk the end health of your cham you can find cheap "economical" panthers at some of the big box companies who buy in bulk and sell very young for cheap. Check our sponsors as I know at least one of them is known for this practice.

Just remember buying a male that young may end up giving you a female or a different local all together, and very young panthers are harder to care for.

edit: You can find quality for less than 200 from sponsors and from the classified adds.

hurry and get Lancechams last male in the classifieds. i just recieved mine today, you would love him.

personaly, I liked raising my fist panther from a baby.
I got to see him grow up from such a little thing...not that he is a full adult yet.

most babys are even bellow $300 from reliable site sponcers, and the clasifides offer some for less then $200.

good luck with whatever you do.

I'd like to advise you to take your time. Get use to Jasper first and then after you learn alot with him go for the panther. Veileds can be very beautiful, too.

I wasnt going to buy one right away I was just wondering on the cost diffrence. I would like to buy one in the future for sure though! =]

I'm on the same page as you Renzo, but I agree with jannb. The panther's are really cool, but im going to wait for my veiled to reach adulthood before I get one. $500 is pretty steep though. I've never even seen them that expensive. Check out some of the sponsors for this forum, theres a link in the top right corner.

I'm not seeing any valid, justifiable reasons why pardalis are and always have been, overpriced. Anyone? Anyone?

I don't think they are overpriced that's what a large colorful chameleon goes for. Besides with more people breeding them I have seen prices come down except the rarer ones like falys. I also have seen very expensive montane species that are the size of lateralis lateralis . Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Just wondering where you are? Up here in Canada you can get a good quality cham of pretty much any locality for between $200-300. Of course the localities like Nosy Mitoso and Ankaramy go for a bit more, but I don't think $500.

Overpriced??? If any thing they are under priced right now. Ask anyone who produces chameleons on a consistent basis just how much it really cost to do. I'll go ahead and tell you it's not cheap.

Anyone, anyone.... ok , I'll bite....

Trace... what do you believe the correct valuation is on a Panther??? Keep in mind, fewer eggs per clutch, higher mortality and longer rearing before they can be released to homes...... surely they should be worth more than a veilded???

They should be worth more than Veilds on color alone. My first cham was a Veiled and I loved him...but there's something about a solid blue Nosy be that made me shell out the 300 on his beauty alone. Like they said...Supply and Demand...If panthers were the same price as Veilds, I doubt many people would buy Veilds in the first place :(

well, i gotta be honest, i don't regret paying a single dime for what i paid my two panthers.

although i spent well around 700 for two.

but really there are alot of breeders, if you look around you will not have to compromise the quality of animal for the price.

there are breeders out there who will take a certain amount of money for a quality animal.

now, some locales will be more expensive then others because of availability within the US/ canada.

honestly, if you ask me the average price of a panther should cost about 100-200 bucks. BUt thats not how it is, Quality animals and high end color animals will always of course cost more.

Mine came to a little over $400, including shipping and three types of supplements. I've had him a little over four years now ($100 a year), and have hopes of his living to be 6 or 7.
I wouldn't want to see them in the $60 and under range, for fear of them becoming "disposable" lizards like anoles too often are.
Why are they so much pricier than veileds (which probably have pretty similar cost input from the breeder)? - Because people are prepared to pay that much.
