i just got a new baby veiled as a present from my hubby :) he reminds me very much of Jack, but he has such a pronounced brow that he looks like he's scowling at you all the time, i love the attitude :p....he changes so many colors, sometimes being brown like sand, and then grey, but i think the grey is going to turn yellow, in which case he will have a lot of yellow ;)..... his name is Bruce........its beena while (3 years) since i ve had a baby veiled, and wondered about temps.........he basks alllll the time, temp in basking area is about 90, rest of cage is about 70, is that ok? humidity is a balmy 50-70%, depending on mistings. he is about 4 mnths old if i had to guess, not positive tho. he is in one of those black zip up screen enclosures, and has a 5.0 UV and a 100 watt heat lamp ( i heard veileds need 10.0? but he is still little...) . and lots of vines, and a real pothos plant. i am still waiting for a poop so i can have it tested for parasites just in case. any input or advice?! thanks!

When I got Amy I was advised to keep babies temps to the low 80s as they cannot thermoregulate as well as adults, and as a result can overheat and become dehydrated very easily. It's so exciting having a new chambaby! Congrats on your new addition and I love his name!:D

thanks misslily! ok, i will lower his basking stick, so that the temp is not so high.........its hard because a vet told me once that if they spend a lot of time up by the heat, it means that its not warm enough.........as they should be wandering, not just basking, which it seems that Bruce is doing......

Is his cage quite large? If it is, maybe he does need to bask to keep warm. Don't know much about babies I'm afraid, only what I learnt with Amy!

a 5.0 will work just fine. I use a 5.0 and a 50w basking spot lamp right next to one another. The basking branch is 6" form the top of the cage... this gets them close to both lamps and won't burn them.

oh, and i wanted to know about supplimenting as well..........right now he is on the same schedule as jude.........

D3 every other weekend
REptivite opposite weekends

calcium feeding during the week.

does this seem appropriate? and right now he is eating about 10 little crix/ day, sometimes less, sometimes not every day, we very between feedings.......

no he is in a fairly small cage at the moment, but he is in our room and the temps get kind of on the chilly side, but the thermometer is reading 70 ambient temp.......

Sounds good to me... just don't make the crickets WHITE with dust... :) If you notice little white bits on his nose cut back on the calcium a bit...

so, i think he's doing well..............but he spends the majority of his time under the heat lamp.........is this ok? is he supposed to wander more? Jack was a real wanderer, all over the cage.............is it too cold in the cage? or does he just like to sun? temp is around 90 in the basking spot, and 75 everywhere else..........

Nothing creepy about watching your lizard all day! :D
Welcome. :)
P.S I think this is normal, they more often since they grow fast (first 6 months), so it makes sense they bask correspondingly more to digest. :)
Cute cham!
