My Melleri
I did have a Meller's named Gizmo. He died last night, aged 2, of a respiritory infection. I miss him :(
This is him when i got him at 6 months old:
And this is him a week or so before he died:
I snuggled him up on a towel, layed him on my chest and stroked his chin. He gave up at 6:55 (UK). We just buried him in the garden under the tree he used to climb on when he was little.
I think i might have to take a break from the forums for a while guys, until i can deal with seeing...
He is still fighting it. You guys probably dont want to hear this, but this forum is the only release i have at the moment.
Completely still now. You would think he were dead but for the few flares up every couple of minutes. I dont know what im going to do.
Im sure he is dying now.
Not moving, eyes closed. No response if i touch him or anything. He just flares up every now and then, its the only thing letting me know he is still alive.
Ingestion.
Can chameleons be sick? I think they can, as it seems like Gizmo just was. He made a horrible vomiting sound, and had a load of goop in his mouth. He can hardly move around, so i lifted and tilted him and he let it just all run out of his mouth into a tissue.
I think he's dying. :(
My dad had an idea: Albas oil is well known for helping to break down mucus. If i direct a fan blowing over Albas oil into his viv, reckon it will make much difference? It cant hurt to try, it is just eukalyptus and menthol.
My cham currently has both MBD and URI, and is on a course of Baytril.
Ive been giving him Baytril for 2 days, and he seemed okay, but just now, for unknown reasons, he has gone a VERY pale colour, almost cream coloured. He has also started opening in a similar way to a threat display, but it...
Haha i wouldnt call myself a 'good' keeper. If i were a good keeper he wouldnt have MBD/URI in the first place! Im glad i managed to learn a lot from you guys, or i would have been stuffed!
On a side note, the vet also weighed him in at 294g. No doubt he will be around 350 when he is fully...
Woohoo! Vet visit went well, she said that he is looking much stronger and has a better grip (well, i could have told her that), and gave me some baytril for a weeks course to help with his URI. I have to give him 0.06ml a day! Tiny tiny volumes.
He is also gaining weight and generally looking...
Ah, i keep mine on a constant cycle. Apparently if you follow natural day pattern it can lead to semi-hibernation. I didnt really want that if he had MBD. I keep mine going from 7am to 8pm. Its a heat-UV combo.
