I just bought the 6.5 (no R) from Amazon because it was about $25 less and could be shipped in 2 days. They had a 5-6 day wait for the 6.5R. But Decadancin is on to something. I can print a sticker with a picture of MY lizard, and make my own 6.5R!
Thanks for that useful info. So I guess I should ignore the advice on Solarmeter's web site to also get a 6.2 to measure the lifespan of the bulbs (somebody has to pay for those stickers!) and just get either a 6.5 or a 6.5R. Then I will just use the change in UVI over time to gauge when to...
There may be a closer place to you, but I have gotten fruit fly cultures, food, and supplies here: http://www.neherpetoculture.com/index
They are pretty easy to raise, and once you start, you can keep perpetuating new cultures.
Can any Solarmeter owner tell me the difference between the 6.5 and 6.5R? I looked at their web site and they suggested that if you have the 6.5R, you should also get the 6.2 to measure the decline over time of the bulb output. That's crazy, considering how much they cost. It sounded like they...
I have a DragonStrand Large Atrium (45"w x 22.5"d x 44"h). It's the clearsided version, so overspray is less of an issue. I started out with 4 in front, 1 in each corner and a double-nozzle in the middle. However after a month, I felt the back did not get enough so I added the same in the back...
Oh yes, I will certainly sterilize the enclosure. I have some very nice plants and was hoping to wipe them down, but I will think about just replacing them. When I set it up, I did a double pot system for each pot, with the outer pot anchored in the enclosure, then an identical pot slides in...
I went over to Solarmeter's web side and started looking at their 6.5 meter. Then I noticed it said reptile keepers should look at the 6.5R model, which has basically a scale calibrated for reptile D3 absorbtion. Then I noticed that they "recommended" you use the 6.5R to measure the readings for...
I have a Dragonstrand Large Atrium enclosure (clearsided), 45.25"w x 22.5"d x 44.25"h that was for my adult male Veiled chameleon, George. Sadly, he passed recently, but the enclosure was well-planted, so I've kept the lights and water going for the plants. I thinking now of getting a Panther. I...
Thanks for the tip about Matt. And hello Matt. As I was saying, I would like to get a new chameleon. I'm becoming interested in Panthers. Besides being beautiful, it sounds like they can have good dispositions. One thing that is a bit confusing is the large number of locale-specific varieties...
I am very sad to say that my male Veiled Chameleon, George, passed away recently. I miss him a lot, but I did not have the heart to break down his enclosure, which is very well planted. Plus he had a breeding supply of dubias in a large Rubbermaid container, and I've kept feeding them, of...
Umbrella plants are found on all the "safe plant lists", and seem to be extremely popular. But according to Wikipedia, and several other sources, Schefflera arboricola has calcium oxalate crystals in the leaves, stems, and sap, which are poisonous. The Wikipedia article says that confusion...
That makes sense. I'm pretty sure mine have no additives. They came as completely dehydrated crystals. For my cigars, I hydrate them with distilled water. I'd use the RO water I use for my mister and dripper for the feeders. I just wasn't sure if there was more than one kind of polymer these...
