I've been on the fence about getting a solarmeter. My Cham spends time outside almost every day and when she doesn't she gets direct sunlight from the window, while it's open. I want to put the money towards the new enclosure I'm building.

I have one. I like it. There are two plugs with a switch on each plug. The switches are about 1 foot away from the light fixture.

Yes, any parts that are not coated will rust. The ends, where they are cut, will rust. There are little rubber caps you can get to go over the ends. Also, anywhere the coating gets scratched will rust. Someone put these shelves outside in my shed before I moved in and they are all rusty.

Has anyone tried using the aquatic plant substrates you can find in the stores?

I'm working on one too. I haven't gotten very far in the last few weeks. I'll be working on it again in the next week or two. I was thinking about doing a build thread. Mine is a China Cabinet.
