Dr. O,
I did manage to get a vial of calcitonin (that stuff is expensive, geez) and Gumby got an injection once a week for 3 weeks. I am sure it helped but from the radiographs his bone density seemed to be mostly improved in the 3 or 4 weeks before the injections began.
He Finally Ate on His Own!
Yep! Yesterday for the first time, he finally ate 4 butter worms on his own. I had been hand feeding him everyday for almost 2 months and started to wonder if I was feeding him so much that he had no desire to eat on his own. It took about a week of tough love and...
You need to find someone that can afford to get her the care she needs. She does not deserve for you to "put her down yourself." That would be cruel and I really hope you will reconsider your last post. This looks like a simple infection that could easily be treated and she deserves an owner...
Progress Report = Awesomeness
:D Hooray! :D After only 3 weeks we managed to grow Gumby some bones! Still not perfect by any means but so much better than before. Now if I could only get the little man to eat something on his own. hrmph. ;)
For everyone that is following this thread and anyone that has found themselves in a similar situation I wanted to recommend http://www.reptileuv.com. When I needed to buy one of there high uvb output bulbs for Gumby, almost all of their products were on back order due to high demand for an...
Dr. O, First of all I wanted to thank you for all of your help. I will give the doctor I work for this information and see if it might be something he would be willing to attempt.
The straws have been working very well except for one spot. I think the humerus of one arm may have been...
I would see what they have at the home improvement stores. They have all different kinds of tubing and things that might work for this. I love to just walk around in those stores and look for a solution to a problem, I usually find it in the place I least expected, like an old amusement park...
I used a stiff plastic reusable straw, the kind that comes with the tourist attraction cups that cost like $12. I cut them the lengths of his long bones and then cut down the sides of the small pieces. Then you just open the piece into a C shape and place them over the limbs. Make sure not to...
I have been looking online at all of the different types of mercury vapor bulbs available and as far as I can tell everyone seems to agree that Mega-Ray bulbs are the best that you can get. Problem is that all of their bulbs are on backorder on their website and they are not available anywhere...
Dr. O, Thank you for all the information. Do you have a certain mercury vapor bulb that you would recommend. I have seen a few people talking about them but I am still relatively new to all of this and would really appreciate a recommendation.
It is getting hot in Austin and the last few...
I was wondering if any of you might be able to provide some insight into the reptiworm vs. phoenix worm debate. I read a few other threads that all seemed to come to the conclusion that they are exactly the same but the two companies seem to disagree on the issue. What I want to know is if there...
D3 supplementation for a MBD veiled
I rescued a ~6 month old veiled about 2 weeks ago when his owners were going to put him down for his severe MBD. Here is the link to that thread...

If he hasn't had any calcium supplements he might have metabolic bone disease.

There are some good pictures of what to look for in this thread.
I was going online to get some repashy calcium supplements and they offered ones with different levels of vitamin D3, the one with the highest levels said it was for animals in a calcium crisis. I was under the impression that I should only be giving vit D3 twice a month. Would it make sense to...
