If its a plastic bottom cage, try heating up a metal rod till its red hot and melt a hole in it. Ive used a screw driver and an ice pick. Use your stove to heat the metal. BE CAREFUL AND DON'T BURN YOURSELF!!!

There are minwax water based stains and sealers available at lowes or hd. Give me a min, and I'll throw up a link to my cage so you can see what it looks like.

About the shed, I have yet to see him shed but the female has already shed. I don't think that is the problem but what do I know. Any recommendations?
