locusts are great free rangers because they can climb any surface more or less. my veiled loves hunting them. you know hes got one on the side of his enclosure when you hear a dull thump lol.
dubias are OK if you have a lot of floor space. they tend to just hide instantly if theres anywhere...
i use a mixture of real and fake. fake for the hanging vines he seems to climb on loads. hes a big bugger and tends to demolish the foliage quite quickly with his tramplings. i have a ficus, hibiscus and umbrella plant on the bottom of the cage to give him some cover from about 2/3 of the way...
eatings always good. chams going off their food can be a nightmare...as with any reptile.
get used to hissing btw, dont feel bad its just the way they are. chances are when he matures he'll be a meany. mine wants me dead but i kind of like his bad attitude.
if im not handfeeding i prefer to use a feeding cup. you can keep a better idea of what hes actually eating that way. if your free ranging the prey he could miss tonnes of it, not such a big deal when hes full grown but when hes a baby id want to know hes getting the right amount every day...
the usual reaction is i get the "oh look hes a weirdo" look when i tell my friends but whenever they come over and actually meet my reptiles they (with a few wimpy shrieking exceptions) really love them and want to hold them or end up bombarding me with questions about them.
reptiles carry a...
yeah i was the same a few weeks ago. collecting sticks and rocks and carting them home on the train. i must have looked like id escaped from a facility or something haha.
my year old veiled male called simmons wants me dead!!! we've come to a rough understanding about hand feeding but he hates me trying to get him out of his cage. he hisses and tries to bite every time.
just got to put the time in and try. sometimes you'll never get anywhere chams can be grumpy.
i did the same thing in my sons pre school class and they were so excited. my veiled is a grumpy sod but they just thought that was funny. once he was out on my hand he was ok and everyone got to see him eat a few dubias. also bought in a trio of my leopard geckos which they all got to hold...
dubias are so much better than crickets. im only keeping crickets til my dubia colony is established then i'll only be getting them in smaller quantities for variety, they stink and the chirping drives me nuts.
ive had my male veiled for 10 days now and at first he hated me, hissed, tried to bite, flared up and otherwise wanted me dead lol. now hes learned that im not a threat and i bring him big juicy dubias hes less grumpy and more inclined to trust me.
some chams will hate you forever, some...
some must have different tastes my male veiled will eat anything put in front of him, crickets, locusts, wax worms, superworms, dubias....hes like me, not a fussy eater at all :)
ive had my chameleon just over a week and hes been a usual grumpy male veiled. but today ive made progress and its all thanks to dubia roaches. ive been trying to hand feed him crickets and locusts and he hasn't taken them from me, just out of his cup or off his branches.
this morning i...
