I got some new dart frogs for Xmas, hubby saw me looking at an ad for two escudos and snapped them up for me. So excited, these have been on my wish list forever!
Could my daughter and I come? We don't have any chams but are looking to get some more in the near future, currently just have lots of geckos and plants, but would love to meet everyone. If there is anything I could bring we would be more than happy to contribute :)
I know a lot of you on here are interested in plants and other animals, so I just wanted to let you all know that there will be a large (last year was about 45 people, this year is looking to be quite a bit more) meeting at my house on May 11th. Vendors come and set up tables in the backyard...
My guess is the hibiscus is drowning. In my horticulture soils class one of the things we learned is that gravel in the bottom of the pot actually slows drainage, the soil must reach a super saturated state (boggy) before it will enter the macro pores of the gravel. I say take the gravel out...
Don't use gravel at the bottom of the pots, it makes the soil reach a super saturated level before it will move into the macropores of the gravel. If you just leave the soil alone, it only has to reach a saturated level to drain, so with gravel in the bottom of your pot it will actually need the...
Drilling glass wasn't nearly as hard as I thought, I just drilled my first tanks last month. The trick is to get a diamond edged bit, build a dam around where the hole is going to hold water (I used play dough), get the drill going as fast as you can before you touch the glass, come in at a 45...
I use exo terras and zoomeds for my dart frogs and have drains installed in the back. I use hydroballs as a false bottom, and drilled 1/2" holes through the glass so that the water drains before reaching the substrate layer. I use the PHBBF0532C on this page...
Unfortunately most of the organic soils at home depot and lowes are going to have the chicken manure. Kellogg patio plus is awesome, but it's for outside use only because it will breed a ton of fungus gnats. I usually just make my own using the non miracle gro peat moss from lowes.
