Hello, does anyone know if a japanese maple is ok to use in a chameleon terrarium. I really love these trees.

thanks

I believe all of the maples (box elder) are safe.
These trees (japanese sp.) love shade though ... and a chameleon enclosure should be pretty bright (hibiscus and bougainvilla thrive in mine.)
Not like direct sunlight though ... so maybe you'll be okay.
Home Depot actually had really nice ones at the beginning of the season this year for about $25 ... I have one in my garden behind the fish pond.
It will be interesting to know how the plant tolerates chameleon abuse.

thanks everyone. im looking for end of season ones. and since winter is coming soon, i hope there are some left! As far as your cage being bright. I dont see how, unless its outdoor or has a huge metal halide on top, mine is just lit with a 75 watt grow bulb... not even close to the sun.

I have a humongous branch from a big Japanese maple that got struck by lightning and split to pieces on my girlfriends campus. I moved it inside, sanitized it, and strung some cool tube lights in it and my chams ADORE sitting in it. They turn super bright green and roam around on the tree but get pissed if you try to take them down.

It doesn't look so huge in this photo, but it goes to the ceiling and then some. Sorry for the dark photo.

haha kenya love the slow children sign made me laughed when i saw it.

Yeah, we have a ton of signs around the house...That one is even better when you read all of the stickers on it.

"NO HUNTING" is a favorite...as is the "ATTENTION: MEAN DOG" that is actually in French. "HELP WANTED" is over the kitchen sink and "CAUTION: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL STORAGE AREA" is on a closet that definitely warrants it :D

There is a Repti-Sun 5.0 UVB tube (which you need to get!) a full spectrum plant light and a basking light over every enclosure.
It doesn't sound like you have the proper lighting for your animal's health and well being.

Isn't Bougainvilla on the TOXIC list????

lights

Really? I figued most would use a basking lamp (inandecent) as light and heat,
and then another being the reptisun 5.0,.

I have 48" reptisun 5.0 's
and 75w incandencent grow light.
this is also a basking providing 88* temp

thats pretty funny lol all i got at my apt is rockstar and a jager banner lol

I have had no problems with veileds and bougainvilla (and they do eat it)

The plant light is a full spectrum Sylvania or Phillips ... purchased at Home Depot for around $8.
