Where's Waldo? Pt. II
5 Month Birthday just passed on March 28th, Waldo is hesitant to snatch crickets out of his new cup feeder, he really does like free hunting his crickets a lot more then shooting fish in a barrel, but he will have to get used to it because I have a flaw in the cage, I believe with the doors sealing shut all the way, where crickets get between the door frame and the cage frame and just eagerly await my opening as the jump off and make a run for it.
Here is my most recent pictures of Waldo in his new home, first night sleeping and second day relaxing.
&/7/2011 - Just purchased the EcoZone Vivarium Controller as well as a dimming UVB light to go with it. I can't wait to hook this bad boy up and create the most realistic environment I can for Waldo. Everything from sunrises and sunsets to a lunar cycle where the black light will illuminate the cage on full moon nights and shed a dim light on nights where the moon is just a small crescent. All that is great, but the main thing will be maintaining the temperature and humidity, especially for days I am away from home (every other day for a full 24 hours). While away at work I can only put enough crickets in the cup feeder to last all day, make sure my misters water is fool and be on my way, at least with the EcoZone Controller I can be confident that the temperatures will be maintained where they should be and the humidity levels will be kept up in the range I want them. If only they would make a cricket feeder that allows a certain amount of crickets out a day....hmm
I've also rearranged the lighting. The UVB light now spreads across and around the basking area and the basking light was raised just a tad to maintain the 85 degree temperature. Overall though, I'm thinking about moving the basking area with the UVB light and the cup feeder to the opposite corner of the cage against the back corner of the wall so Waldo can get a little more privacy while eating and basking. The area it is in now is on the side that is open to the living room and while there isnt much traffic going to the cage, he is able to see people sitting on the couch.
The lunar light I plan to place a good distance above the cage, higher then the basking light to avoid emitting too much heat into the cage, and off to a corner that is less frequently traveled and facing in.
July 11, 2011 -
Waldo had his 3rd Shed today. He went a little cage crazy, top to bottom, only once climbing on the side. He wasnt nearly as bad as his last shed where he was walking upside down on the top of the cage. I watched him carefully this time, and thankfully as he somehow got wedged between two stems of fake leaves, had one leg and his head through. Kept backing up and backing back over and over again. I reached in to spread the stems to let him have space to escape and he jumped. He fell about 10" into my hand then rand up my arm into the crease of my elbow. I slowly got him back to my hand and put him back onto his vines where he darted off. For such a slow reptile, this guy can run when he wants to. Little does he know, I possibly just saved his life...
oh well, maybe like my kids - one day when he gets older he will thank me (I tell myself that all the time with them). He's roamed about 80% of his cage making sure to rub his entire body on every leaf, branch, stem, and vine in sight as has shed about 95% of his skin. I'm just glad he got the bit of his eyeball as it had curled up but was still stuck on his eye and looked like he was viewing through a telescope.
Received two brand new 24' 5.0 tubes in today. just waiting for my ecozone controller to come (estimated arrival is thrusday) which is a 24 hour workday for me meaning ALL of friday I will be sitting back with a brewski playing with all the settings. EXCITED!
more to follow (until I add my max 4 pictures)
