Raising, Caring for, And Breeding Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches(Gromphadorhina Portentosa) are great pets and great feeders for the average chameleon looking for some variety. They are easy to care for as long as you follow my instructions below.

SEXING
Sex is determined by looking at the antennae. Males will be larger and have thicker furrier antennae. Females will be smaller and have thinner smoother antennae.

FEEDING
Carrots are healthy and also seem to be a universal favorite. It is also good to add in leafy greens (I use Kale) for extra nutrients. Either get organic or thoroughly wash before feeding as pesticides have killed mine before. Use water gel instead or water as not to drown them.

HABITAT
10-30 should have at least a 10 gallon tank. They need plenty of places to hide (paper towel rolls, egg crates, etc.) because they are nocturnal. Every cage needs a humidity gauge/thermometer. Humidity should be high semi-tropial to tropical. Temerature should be 75-85 degrees (heat pad/red or black heat lamp). Keep floor clear of feces because too much will kill them. Do not use substrate because they will burrow and it makes it hard to clean up after them, use reptile carpet.

BREEDING
Breeding is fast with a 1 male to 5 female ratio. Just remember that heat is required to breed.

HANDLING
They do not like to be handled but are easily aquainted to handling. At first they will hiss but hissing will lessen over time and eventually stop.

I hope this helps you and your future roach. They are sweet once domesticated.
(Mine watch TV with me :D)
