The blog….i think this is what I wanted to create when I started my build journal. I have a background with poison dart frogs and spent many hours on Dendroboard Forums. Over there people would maintain extensive build threads as they built out vivariums. They are super helpful for future builders.
Here is my build thread:
I won’t recreate my Viv build out but use this as a new place to share my experience. Hopefully people in similar northern latitudes (38N) can relate.
I live in northwest Montana ( Under the Big Sky, near Glacier National Park)
The air in my house is usually 35-45% humidity almost year round. Winters are cold (15-25 is “ normal” but normal is a loose term these days). Summers can get 70-100f. We have gas forced air heat and AC. No wood stove heat. I keep the room temperature set about 68-70 and try to drop the temp overnight.
My vivarium is a Reptizoo glass enclosure. It is fully bioactive.Outside dimensions are 48h x 36w x 18d. There are sliding bypass doors on the lower and upper section. The ceiling is screen and I have 2 120mm fans that pull air out of the tank. I also built an air duct which had a third fan. The inlet of the duct is 24” wide and 1” tall.., the inlet is positioned right above the leaf litter. The fan and outlet are at the top of the Viv. And also push/ pull air out of the tank.
