Zilla Calcium Supplement Reptile Food Spray

zilla calcium spray

its primary ingredient is calcium gluconate, which is also used as an injectable form of calcium for the treatment of mbd. calcium carbonate is essentially like rep cal only (in this case) in a liquid suspension. the potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate (which there are concerns on the safety of) are preservatives and the xanthan gum merely gives it viscosity so all of the calcium carbonate does not sink to the bottom. i personally try to avoid the use of preservative containing ingredients whenever possible. sodium benzoate when mixed with vitamin c can produce benzene, so i would be careful using it with other gutlaod or supplement that was high in vitamin c or ascorbic acid. also, sodium benzoate has germicidal/fungicidal qualities and excessive use could concievably reduce or eliminate the beneficial/necessary microbes that live in the digest tract. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-sodium-benzoate.htm i do have some, and i do occasionally use it. its liquid form makes it so that if neccessary, you can still give calcium (via dental syringe), to a cham that is not feeding, it also makes it so that you can inject feeders. it is a stronger form of calcium and i use it only if i feel extra calcium is warranted, but i do not use or recomend it as a primary source of calcium, for the sole fact that it does not have a widespread proven track history, like some of the dry products do. i have heard of it improving mild cases of mbd. given that it appears to be a more concentrated source of calcium (there is really not enough info supplied) and the fact that it also contains calcium chloride, i would be concerned about the increased possibility of calcification of tissues or over supplementation of calcium with long term use. when it comes to long term supplementation, i like to stick to what has already been proven to work, and i like to use as little of it as possible. it might work fine as a primary source of calcium, but you would have to risk your cham to find out. jmo /edit; the only reason i have it is because i needed some liquid calcium glubionate (also a concentrated oral form of calcium with no preservatives), https://www.chameleonforums.com/liquid-calcium-38513/ but could not wait on shipping so i got some zilla calcium spray in the meantime.
