Will Negvar be okay for awhile?

Hi, I am completely new and have had my chameleon (Negvar) for about 1 week. We live in AZ, (very dry), and currently have him in a class terrarium with a screen top.

We have been struggling to keep the humidity up because it is so dry here. I am looking at purchasing/making a screen cage, but was wondering do you think we are okay with this set up for awhile?

We mist him 3-4 times a day, and have rigged up a sonic humidifier. It seems to be doing the trick of keeping the humidity up without making anything soggy wet.

Sure would appreciate any comments and suggestions....

remove the substrate
put that big pothos in the tank
add lots of branches to roam along up and down and across since he does not have any real height and is in a short tank
do not need to use that 3rd light do you? no light needed at night and if ur in az its warm enuff there at night so a heater shouldn't be needed

You need to track your temp zones and humidity in the tank really carefully he can burn up in that thing since it has no depth to allow cooler areas. They are arboreal not land dwelling so length less important than height. There are plenty of posts about how to care for the chameleons on here so make sure to look them up, it could save you some heart break and ur cham's life.

Thanks for the pointers.. I moved the basking lamp away from the highest point and stuck the Pothos in there. He was clawing at the side of the cage to get at it...now he won't go in it??? Will get rid of the substrate and get a tall vs long screen cage.

I would put the basking spot on on end and the pothos on the other and put some branches between the two spots, and keep them both high as possible.

He will bask in the hot spot and move to the pothos to chill and most likely sleep/hide when scared. Which is good and is best way to simulate the temperature zones in your setup.

Hello glad you joined our group. A veild Cham is a perfect Cham for where you live, veileds will deal with the heat. He will need a screened cage as the heat can build up in the glass tank way to high. You sound like a thoughtful person who will take the time, effort, and money to get your guy set up the way he should be.

I've been looking for awhile for a project to work on with my husband...he is already captivated by Negvar....yep, we do want to do a proper job with him...
