Wild chams and calcium

Generally, the calcium intakes for wild chameleons are lower than those seen for chameleons in captivity. Their calcium may be limited, but it is highly available and much more is absorbed than what is likely typical for captive chameleons. Moreover, their metabolism has adapted so they maintain adequate blood and cell levels with only modest calcium stores. .Dark green vegetation is very high in calcium and is what a lot of wild prey is gut loaded with.also the natural exposure to sunlight.we cant replicate the gutloading the insects get in the wild too.

Wild chameleon diet research is fairly sparse, but since we know that chameleons are known to eat vertebrates it's possible that some percentage of their calcium intake comes from the bones of whatever vertebrates they manage to catch. Then things like snail shells are high in calcium, etc. Some bugs are higher in natural calcium content than others.
