Why the sudden attitude?

I've had my vielded chameleon in my care for about 3-4 weeks now, she's always been calm never really puffed up just got spotted, and never used to hiss & be cranky everytime i try to get her out of her cage to feed her T Rex Bone Aid (cause she got MDB from the pet store) she's super cranky. I read some peoples threads and they open the cage & their chams climbs right out. Why could this bee she's got all this attitude all of a sudden ?

I've never dealt with it, only read about it. Hopefully someone with experience will be able to give you signs that all is well. I do think fiestiness is a good sign though.

Hello, I have a cham that is also recovering from MBD.

Mine started to get a bit upset with me about two weeks ago now. She used to be really sweet, but now she is starting to act like a real chameleon

I do think that it is a good sign, and since it sounds like your's and mine are around the same recovery time I think that it's safe to say that she still has a little ways to go before she is completely healed. I'm not sure how you can personally tell when your's is better, but on the day when mine doesn't need me for a full day, (besides turning the lights on and off of course) I think that is when she is all better :)

Oh ok ! Well that is good , what are you using with your cham to recover him/her ? Just curious , id like to see if im doing the samr things

I started out feeding her a lot of butterworms daily and crickets every other day. I went with butters because she was starved and needed to gain some weight. I tried giving her liquid calcium, but she always gagged on it, so I just mixed it up in her water and gave it to her through a syringe. I also used Carnivore Care because that is what my vet prescribed for the malnourishment. I also upped her UVB light to a 10.0, and she is still on that.

If you can see her ribs just a bit when she flattens herself out would that mean she needs to gain some weight ? Ive got mine on trex bone aid emergency calcium n i give her that everyday a couple drops , ive got 5.0 bulbs on her , i might get a higher basking bulb 75 watt cause its realy cold noww ..

captain youve done so well i remember the first post about how the boys had lost her in the house im glad you didnt give up and same for you kels just because a creatures sick doesnt mean youll give up great trait! good luck to both of you guys you do have people cheering for you and your chams happily ever after.

well checked with the petshop.. if i get butters to fatten her up , it'll cost a buck a worm :/ ... not impressed... Captain, do you use them as a feeder or treats?

I use them as feeders since mine is still on the skinny side. I stopped by the vet yesterday for a check up and he told me to keep giving them to her because she can still gain a bit more weight. Order them offline. A dollar a worm is absolutely ridiculous. Georgiacrickets has great prices on them. I would also order some phoenix worms. Despite what the vet says, I don't want my little girl getting fat, and phoenix worms are high in calcium and low in fat. I will probably permanently switch to those, especially since I ordered 400 :p

By the way, this was my little girl when I first got her. Actually, maybe about a week after I had her. She is a little bit fatter in this picture because it is before she had her eggs.

OMG, i've never seen any cham like that before ! poor gurl, how old is she? & is she a vielded? What made her like this , is this realy severe MBD? ... & on the feeders thing i dont usualy pick up more than 2 dozen at a time, i have a small cricket cage, by exoterra i think.. I don't like getting too many at a time cause a bunch end up dying on me, & i got like 3 different vegetable in there and some waterr on a sponge.. but my cricks still diee

Can you go look at my pictures on my profile & let me know if you think mine can bulk up ? Alexas doing alot better in my oppinion .

She is a Veiled Cham, but her casque will probably never stand up again. She is about one year old we think, but due to the MBD she is a lot smaller than she should be. And yes, this is very very advanced MBD.

I checked out your cham pictures, and, in my opinion, she looks like she is at a good weight. Mine was starved for the first six months of her life, so she was a lot skinnier than any cham that I have ever seen. Hopefully someone else will be able to let you know if what they think about your cham's weight :)

I hope everything works out and she gets better.

Thank you & you too , i bet that must take a lot of patience and care working with a cham that had mbd that severe , thats so sad , you must have to hand feed her eh ? Aww , must be hell for her trying to lay eggs , mine hasnt matured for egg laying yet .. Will she ever be able to close her mouth again ? I'm guessing you rescued her by the sounds of it ? .. Keep me updated on her , has she had any injections from a vet ? Id say try trex it realy does work good ive already seen results in the past week ! Shes moving all over always bright green

Yes, I rescued her. I work in an exotic pet store, and she was brought in to us. I ended up taking her home and fixing her up. She will never be able to close her mouth again because he jaws don't line up right. She has never had any calcium injections, but vet opted against it because of how skinny she was. It hasn't been that bad taking care of her. I have rehabilitated frogs before, I just had no idea what to do with a chameleon :)

seeing ribs is not an effective way to tell if your chameleon needs to gain weight. in fact, sometimes if you have trouble seeing the ribs it's a sign that your chameleon is OVER weight
