hey, i'm fairly new to this chameleon forum. so Hi, i'm allen!
i was just wondering where everyone else kept their little friends
and if it mattered.
I'm getting my chameleon in a couple of days and planning on keeping it on my bedroom. Bad / good idea? why or why not?
thanks!

I have mine in my room to, but I'm not in there much.
They need to be in an elevated place with low traffic.
Chameleons can't hear, but they can sense vibrations, so don't do any vibration heavy stuff in your room, drum set, sub-woofer, etc.
So thats pretty much it!
Be sure to do lots of research and ask questions.
You could also fill out the ask for help form here so we can see if there are any problems in your husbandry yet.

Location - Where are you geographically located?

Does it matter how elevated they are? i was going to place his enclosure on a table thats about 30 inches high from the ground. Not sure if higher would be better?
My chameleon is an Ambanja X Ambilobe, male , a little over 3 months. ( i haven't received my cham yet, he should be coming in this coming week from Screameleons.)
Handling- well since i dont have him yet, i haven't really had the chance to. But, from what i have been told by Vince ( from Screameleons, and from reading) most people advise not to handle the cham after getting him for a while.
Feeding- i was planing on starting him off with 1/4 sized crickets for a bit, then maybe see about some worms? i try my best to read as much as possible and see what people advise and such.
Supplements - Rep cal ( calcium with D3) and herptivite ( multivitamin)
As i said, im waiting to receive their setup kit along with my cham.
Watering - Habba mist , misting system.

The cage that i will be receiving is the Zilla screen habitat ( small, provided by Screameleons)
Lighting- Reptisun 5.0, 8.5 ceramin heat dome
Plants- They provide fake branches and vines but i also got an umbrella plant ready. ( to help wit the humidity and such).
Placement- i was thinking of putting the cage near the entrance to my room (aka by my door), im usually the only one that comes into my room. I do have a ceiling fan so yea.
The height of the top of the cage would probably be about 50 inches off the floor.
Location- i live in Los Angeles, California

Howdy Allen,

Looks like you are off to a good start with what you are putting together :). The Habba Mist could be used as a stop-gap unit until you can get a real mister :)rolleyes:). Schefflera (Umbrella) plants work well. The Reptisun 5.0 linear tube is a perfect choice. You won't need more than a 60W flood light for heat. I'm just over here in Manhattan Beach if you ever need to stop by and borrow anything :).

Since you are in the L.A. area keep in mind that there will likely be a "South Bay Chameleon Keepers" group meeting Tuesday night, July 27th. Keep an eye out for an "Invite" post that should come out around the 17th in "The Lizard Lounge" section. It'll look like this one from last month: https://www.chameleonforums.com/june-29th-tues-south-bay-chameleon-keepers-meeting-42712/. Hope you can make it.

Yep, the higher the better. Try to keep their basking branches (which are typically on the upper side of the cage) at or above eye level. That way they feel safe knowing that they're high up.

Good luck with your new little guy!

Mine are in a spare bedroom. Its kept warmer than other rooms because it also has the hedgehogs in it.

The computer is in there but I use a headset, not speakers, so the only noises are me talking.

I keep the door shut when not in there, to lessen the rest of the house noise so if your bedroom is the hang-out spot when friends are over, I'd look for a quieter spot.

Hello

I am new to the forum, I'm 24 years old and from germany.also please please have indulgence with my English, it is not too good:rolleyes:. I hope you understand me anyway:eek:.

My Chameleons (1.1 Ch calyptratus 1.0 Kinyongia multituberculata) I have a an extra room that is only for the animals, along with my other terrariums and my pc.
Thus, the animals rest and no stress when their friends come over to visit

so do you guys think i should build a taller table? because i made this table as a stand for my cham. When i finished it up, i felt like maybe i should have built it taller in height but was unsure.
If anything, my next stand/ table, will be built with the height of 45 or 50 inches from the floor. i'll see.
Thank you for all the feedback everyone. I can use all the help i can get :)

We have a loft that we use to keep all of our critters. It also has a full bathroom so we can wash when handling. 3 of our chams are on a 36" high table that has crates to elevate everyone up. I believe the top of most of the cages are around 6' high.
