Whats happening

my friend has a 1 year old female veiled cham..in the same enclosure for 9 months..perfectly heathly...

he recently bought a 2 year old male in the hope that they will mate..etc etc


but she just hisses at him and as nipped him a few times...

instead of the nice green shes like a really dark green with yellow and light green spots..

she hangs on the trees and like waves her head from side to side with her mouth open...

and he just cowers at the bottom of the tank and looks very scared of her even tho hes bigger..lol

is this a sign of rejection? dominace issues

they are both in the same enclosure now..its a big enclosure..

just thort they would love each other and live togehter happily ever after lol


any thorts on this would be greatly appriciated

Veileds should not be housed together, the only time they should be together is when they are mating.

Was the female receptive? (light blue and yellow spots)

Anyway when a female acts that way they need to be separated.

What led you to this conclusion? Research or hoping?

Veileds have very large clutches, and the responsibility of taking care of babies is much more expensive and harder than one would think.

As stated, they should NOT be housed together. Chameleons are not "mate for life" "love my partner" type of animals. They are solitary and only hang out to do the deed, then disappear.

The female is telling the male that she is non-receptive by her swaying, gaping and coloration. He seems to know this and is staying away from her...but the two of them being in the same cage is going to be stressing them both out....especially since she's showing non-receptive.

I would recommend that they be kept in separate cages and that there is a suitable place in the female's cage for her to dig in to lay eggs so that she doesn't become eggbound.
