What type of screen???

Hi everyone, I am hoping to get my husband or my daughter's boyfriend to maybe start getting some ideas on a build for my outdoor cage. I saw a thread on here before as to what gauge screen should be used. Can anyone help me here? i live in Florida and I don't know if that makes a difference or not Thanks so much!!!!

I think coated quarter inch mesh from HD would be good. I read that someone used that. Small bugs can escape though, so take that into consideration. I'm thinking of making an enclosure with it, for indoors. The top will have to be uncoated mesh so that the lights can't melt the plastic. It's a green color mesh sold in a roll in the building materials, next to the chicken wire.

We used the plastic fencing for ours. You can buy it by the roll at HD cheap.

i'd recommend aluminum window screen... you don't want hornets or yellow jackets to get in there. we have those big red hornets here and they can be mean!

I know, I was thinking of what Jann B used looks good but she also has that inside a patio enclosure. This is going to be for sunning outside and stuff. Not a permanent cage but one where I can transfer him for some outdoor time. I dont want to have to sit there every second and watch him. i want him to be safe and I am worried about those little tiny Lizards getting in if the screen holes were too large and him eating them and choking. I have had a few of those (anoles) in my patio and he has gone right for them when he spotted them on the screen. Also, like you said, wasps, bees, stuff like that I dont want getting in. I dont plan on using lights outside, this is going to be strictly for sun coming through the screen. thanks for the input.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately. I made a cage out of 1/2" PVC coated wire fencing material for my young panther. I like this cage it looks good but you have to hand feed or cup feed. The good thing is you don't have to clean up poop. We have a lot of wasps, bees and stinging things but it hasn't been a problem, either they eat them or avoid them. I've made several cages out of galvanized screen and fencing material. I like these also but have read on these forums that the white chalky stuff that builds up on this type of material might have detrimental effects on the Chameleons if the eat food or drink off it. I can't argue with this as it makes sense to me.

Soooooo...... I'm leaning to just using aluminum screen for my outdoor cages that house young Chameleons or Chameleons that I would want to make sure were eating well. In my opinion you can buy a good outdoor aluminum cage for less than you could make one an be happy with the way it came out.
