I have a 16 month old Ambilobe panther cham that i mated on 12-31-12 so it has been 36 days since i took her out of the males cage. This is the 2nd clutch i've seen her have but the 1st clutch was from the guy i bought her from's male and it was from sperm retention. As far as i know she successfully had 1 clutch for him and 1 for me from sperm retention. This clutch is from my Fl Chams male.Last time she laid for me it was problem free. She is in the same laying bin as last time.I have fed and supplemented her everyday. Her starting weight was 55 g's she gained till she reached 67 g's and then when she stopped eating has gone back down to 62 g's today. About 5 days ago she stopped eating which is normal, also was all over her cage trying to get out (just like the first time she laid for me)Yesterday she started looking dehydrated in the eyes so i sat with her in my shower room and let the hot water steam the room. I have given her liquid calcium mixed with water with a dropper. Today is what concerns me!!! She is acting lethargic, has been gaping her mouth towards the top of the bin and regurgitated some sort of white/yellow mucus. Is this normal or should i be concerned? She is looking very week from the lack of eating

I would take her to the vet for a shot of oxytocin, that is not normal. Can you get her to a vet today?

In the mean time I would also check the laying bin and make sure your mixture isn't too wet or to dry. Is there any chance you can put a laying container in her regular cage and cover her cage for privacy?

I have used 9 inch high and wide plastic planter bottoms and dug a tunnel for them. I hope she lays for you and recovers.

I'm calling around to vets right now.i put a fake fern she likes sitting on in the laying bin and she laying on it,still with her mouth open why is she doing that? I dont want to put her in her cage because she has a tendency to fall off her perch in the last few days before egg laying and i dont want her to get hurt.I think the sand is fine it is not wet to the touch but will hold a burrow fine

My guess is that she is gaping because she wants privacy, if it were me I would make a tunnel with my fist put her in it it and cover the bay so she can't see anyone and use a peep hole to check on her

Ok thank you. i dug her a hole and put her in it.I live in south florida and its 74f in my house should i put a light on it or no,i put the bin in my closet and closed all the door so she is all alone.

no all vets were closed. Do u have any idea what the dosage of oxytocin is and where the injection site would be my friend breeds dogs and he has a vial of oxy incase i have to use it. I hope she makes it she is such a sweet girl

I personally haven't done it myself but I have spoken with jessica on the forum about injections, she has experience with that. I would shoot her a PM and see if she might know in case you have to administer it yourself, if the vet is closed. I hope she pulls through, I will check back with you later. :)

I have females that were bred on Christmas day that haven't laid yet. I've had a female go 47 days before laying. I would definitely give her privacy to let her do her thing but like suzi said maybe even make a starter tunnel.

I ended up getting 24 bright white eggs out of her. I am usually not a emotional guy at all but i am very sad this happened. She was such a sweet girl and never once tried to bite. I am going to post pics of her on here in her memory.Kind of funny how i got this attached to a lizard in only a few months but she was just like one of the family. I am wondering if she was older than i was told she was or what happened. The eggs are not as large as the last clutch she had and the last clutch she had was 40 this one was 24. The only other thing i can think is He breed her he said she laid 25 or so eggs in october then i got her about 2 weeks gravid with a sperm retention clutch of 40 ,she laid those 2 weeks later which was nov 23rd. Then i breed her Dec 31st that was alot for her lil body to handle. I am mad at myself now for not realizing how close together those clutches were.

He said 25 eggs the 5th of october, It's just weird to me she looked perfectly healthy till 2 days ago then she took a turn for the worse

aww dang

I'm so sorry for your loss. It seems like the clutches were pretty close together, but at the same time... seems like something else was wrong. :(

Lesson learned. She was a pretty small female too (i think) when not gravid she was around 41 g's My boy i mated her with weighs 100 g's more than her lol. It's funny i had her 4 months and for 3 1/2 months i hand fed her everytime just in the last few weeks she wouldnt let me she wanted to chase them down

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's always tough to lose a part of your family. Especially with how quickly you get attached to those that you hand feed and take care of and love so much.

I had a cornsnake I bred once and she died soon after laying her first clutch. I found out she had cancer, but her 25 eggs were viable. I kept a few of the babies so i could remember her. I still have one that looks exactly like her. It's hard, but at least you had the time you did. You and your girl are in my thoughts.
