What do you think this is?

Hi all,

Been a while for me. I thought id snap a few pics of Johnny today. He seems as though hes getting a lot more colour in him than when i first got him. He was quite grey looking when i first got him with some pinks in him which led me to believe he was ankaramy. Ive been giving him a nice gutloaded and varied diet plus good vitamin supplements.

Anyway, like i said, hes supposed to be Ankaramy but looking at the second pic of him sat on my head fired up im not so sure, hes looking very tamatave to me with some orange beginning to show through now. Anyone care to give me their thoughts please?

sorry but i dont have eperience with the locals:p

but he is awsome looking to say the least..IMO his teel spine signals ankaramy, but i do see some hint of orange in him...may be he is a cross???

that would be col if he was part ankaramy and part tamatave:cool:

Not for me, a mix would be a nightmare for me as i dont do crosses! I breed 100% pure line chams and my reputation would suffer a hit if he is a cross! ill have to sell him and buy another male, cull all my eggs too! that would be a shame. Just as well i havnt sold any babies yet. Ill wait a few days and see what people think, if hes cross, he goes, as much as i love him!

i understand the urgency to keep bloodlines seperate...but just wait until more ppl will chime in, and maybe see the babies grow if you see any odd coloring not normally displayed in ankaramy...it would b a shame if he was a cross for breeding, but he would b amazing as a normal pet:cool:

i hope for the best..and with high hopes he maybe just a cool looking ankaramy

Why would you cull the eggs?! id take them off your hands :D well not all of them but id definetly take 1 or 2

I just dont do crosses, its a reputation i would really like to keep. I personally think hes just a really nice looking ankaramy so not to worried but obviously, the customer is always correct! lol

Im in Germany, just based here with the Army until i have enough money to set up my chameleons properly, leave the Army and breed chams full time so reputation is something i have to earn and crosses will not do if i want to sell my stock.

if you think hes nice you should look at my other posts and see my Ambilobe! ;) Also got a nice juvi Ankify showing tons of potential gonna post some pics up in a couple of months when his colours really come through. Just sold my East Masoala male last week as the female died and i cant get another unrelated 1 which pains me a lot.

i see your point and wish you great luck in your bredding projects...and i will check out your ambilobe:)and hope to see that ankify;)....sorry for your female and i havent seen a masoala in person!!! hope to see alot of locales in future(in person) or at least on pics...goodluck!!!

How old is he? He may just be going through a phase as he continues to mature. I have a pure nosy be that is stripped with yellow, which I've been told by the breeder that is rare, but normal in some nosy bes while they mature into their blues. So who knows. Or hey, maybe you just have a very unique ankaramy?

Try to get photos of him in natural sunshine so we get a really natural color. Sometimes indoor lighting will make the colors look more yellow/orange and might trick some people into voting tamtave when that might not be the case.

he around 2 years old now. like i said, when i got him he hardly had any colours in him but with the right diet and supplementation he has gone very colourful! ill take some more tomorrow and post them up but for now an idea what im dealing with here would still be appreciated. the pic is very accurate thought to be honest although he doesnt show quite so many orange tones in natural light but theyre still there.

I see blue on his spines, so I'm inclined to agree with Ankaramy, but I'm no reliable authority. Hopefully you aren't forced to part with him!

I also think hes Ankaramy because of the teal spine. Its just the slight orange tint and the whites that are throwing me. If i do have to part with him hes not going far, my brother has volunteered to have him as a pet instead of a breeder!!

Im convinced hes Ankaramy as the breeder i deal with has been in the business for over 30 years and certainly knows his stuff when it comes to panther chams and he says hes Ankaramy.

Only problem is that this was not 1 of his chams, it was brought in by someone who thought it was ill due to the lack of colours at the time. I just decided that i would take him on and provide him with a good diet and supplements thinking i would be able to bring some coloration out of him which you can clearly see worked!!! :D I just wish i took Photos of him when i first brought him home to compare.

So, ill log off for tonight and check back tomorrow. Please feel free to give me your thoughts guys, Ankaramy or Tamatave or worse....cross.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for my ignorance but why are crosses bad? Is it like liagers (lion tiger animal) where they cant make babies? Or it it just simply a from a businesses prospective about keeping a good reputation because you specialize in a certain trade sale? Sorry again I'm just ignorant on this whole thing and like to gain some knowledge of the subject.

Not bad , but people like to keep the locales clean and not mix them,

dude..dont apologize everyone is ignorant now and then....at least u r the few that admit it:p

anyways ...breeders usually like to breed "pure" bloodlines and locales...to keep the locale's appeareance and genes from where thet camefrom "madagascar"....there are alot of ppl who support the idea of keeping everything seperate as it were wen it comes to breeding anything....basically crosses of chams r the "mutts" like in breeding two different dog breeds together....hope this helps..plz anyone if wat i said is incorect then plz correct me or if you would like to elaborate more in the idea .....

I dont do crosses for 2 reasons. Firstly your correct about the business prospective. I specialise in pure locales, just like dog breeders would not mix there dogs and spoil the pedigree i wont mix my chameleons and spoil the locales.

Secondly, I believe that they should be kept pure because if people cross breed to make a nice looking "designer cham" then eventually there would be no pure locales left as the importation laws have recently changed meaning that in Europe there is only 2000 Panther chams imported and not all these are going to live or breed.

I believe I share the same views as many breeders on here.

Anyway, this is not about breeding, this is about MY chameleon and its MY thread so stop trespassing you trasspassers!!! lol :D

Oh im sorry thank you for the info I guess next time ill ask in PM yea so Now back to the topic at hand IS his chameleon a HYBRID

Whatever the heck he is, he certainly would make for a beautiful pet! I don't see the problem in keeping the little guy as a pet! :) A showcase animal.
