Sooo... My parents got me a 9 month old Veiled Chameleon for Christmas and I named him Leon, so he's been doing good in till around last week. It started with his eye, He was starting to suck it in for long periods at a time now it seems like he is shedding, is that normal for when he sheds on or around the eyes? Then he doesn't seem to be drinking. His poop is half white and half brown/black and his crest seems pale around the edges (I don't know if that's because of the shedding or not). I feed him crickets and I put on some Exo-terra vitamins. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the site. As most members will recommend......."a picture is worth a thousand words." I can not speak of his eye. Hopefully, a more experienced keeper with "eye experience" will chime in. In response to your other questions, some chams. will slow down on eating drinking while in a shed. I know Lucky slows down greatly when he's "changing." A pale crest is most likely a symptom of his shed as it probably has not come off yet. With his "poop," the question to you would be, how does the "white part", the urate look. Is it 98% white with a little yellow, or is it yellowish/ orange, or.....? Again, a pic is what we're after to diagnose. Crickets are a good staple along with other feeders as listed in the below link.

Follow the care sheets to the letter and make sure to "gut load" your feeders well. Don't be shy and ask away after doing your homework on the site. It's a wealth of information that I reference on nearly a daily basis for everything chameleon related.

Hope to hear from you soon,

M.

Without a picture it sounds like your guy has something (shed, or something from his cage) stuck in his eye. If that's the case you can take him into the shower for long misting sessions from the shower. If there's something in there you'll see him closing his affected eye and rolling it around (tough to describe and if it's the first time you are seeing it it can be disconcerting). Do a shower session a day for 2-3 days to see if there is improvement. Sometimes something gets so stuck that you will want to take him to a vet to get it out. Of course if this isn't what's going on with him then we can look at a Vitamin A issue, but if it's only 1 eye this is where I'd start. Post a pic so we can be sure this is what it might be!

Are you dusting your feeders with calcium or just vitamins? Vitamins should only be given a few times a month. As far as his poop, the way you are describing it sounds right: half brown, half white. What makes you think he is not drinking? Because you don't see him doing it? If so, it is not unusual for some chameleons to not drink in front of their keepers. i don't know why this is. My one chameleon I have owned for about 16 months and I have only seen him drink about 3 times!
