Hello all,

I am currently building a new cage for my adult veiled, and was wondering what are safe ways to waterproof the wood in the cage without using any paints. I thought i had saw a post like this before, but was unable to find anything through search.

Thanks a lot.:)

(pics of cage will be posted when finished)

I think there's a special oil that can be used, but I can't think of the name.. :\ sorry

I use low or zero VOC Paint.

other options include:

Water Based Polyurithane
clear coat (multiple layers)
fiberglass
thick layer of aquarium sealant / marine silicon
Marine epoxies
ceramic tile (with thinset and that orange stuff under, just like you would in a tiles shower stall)

Minwax Water-Based Polycrylic Protective Finish - Semi-Gloss

Looks great on cham cages. I used 2 coats and have no problems after 2 years now. Built several cages with it. Virtually odorless.
