vitamins

I dust the insects at most feedings with a phosphorous-free calcium powder to help make up for the poor ratio of calcium to phos. found in most feeder insects.

I dust twice a month with a vitamin powder that has a beta carotene source of vitamin A. Beta carotene won't build up in the system like preformed vitamin A can, but there is controversy as to a chameleon's ability to digest beta carotene so some people give their chameleons a little preformed once in a while. Excess preformed vitamin A will prevent the D3 from doing its job and lead to MBD...so don't overdo it.

If the chameleon only gets UVB light from UVB tube lights (and never/rarely gets direct sunlight) I dust with a phos.-free calcium/D3 powder twice a month too. D3 can build up in the system and cause problems, so don't overdo it either.

Appropriate temperatures are important for good digestion.

Gutloading and feeding the insects a nutritious diet is important too.

Phos., calcium, D3 and vitamin A are the main "players" in bone health and need to be in balance. When trying to achieve that balance it important to look at what you use to gutload and feed the insects with too.

Good luck!
