Vitamin A...retinol...

Or maybe the mulberry leaves contains the trace of vitamin A and got convert into the retinol?
It also seems the higher protein source also has higher content of vitamin A...Beef ...

African anaphe venata has less amino acid than the regular bombyx mori pupae .
Different family or maybe different diet.

Anaphe venata cause ataxia in humans and purposeless chewing in rats. Have you fed them to chameleons?
Imho waxworms are considered a treat because of their high fat content not their low protein content.
Bombyx mori is good because of their high calcium too.

No I never fed the African type, and not planning to do that ever,l just wondering the difference in their diet in between those two and I agree with u on the high fat content in those wiggly waxworms.

This is what I found from another article, but it doesnt tell me what they are consuming.....
"Anaphe venata contain a high level activity of thiaminase enzyme. The enzyme was partially purified through Biogel P-200 gel filtration chromatography. The proximate analysis of A. venata showed a high protein content of 28.00%, crude fibre content of 6.37 and crude fat content of 14.26. The native molecular weight of the enzyme was found to be 85,000 daltons. The overall results indicates that thiaminase from A. venata prefers thiamine as substrate with a Km value of 0.35 mM as compared to 24.51 mM of aniline. A pH optima of 6.0 was obtained for the enzyme. The temperature optimum was found to be 60°C with activation energy values of 5.01 and 12.5 Kcal."

I guess everything in Africa has their own mystery ....
Ataxia is some serious clinical manifestation with the nervous system,I wouldnt want to sit in the wheel chair all day

My next question will be ginger and garlic, what is ur opion on those?what I mean is using them as my gutloaded recipes which I been using them for quiet sometime.

At the moment I don't have any at my house. The last ones were veileds from a study. When I went for double knee replacement a while ago I had to let a friend take my last few reptiles because I ended up in a wheel chair and couldn't do the stairs in my house due to recovery complications (long story). I'm hoping to be out of the wheelchair in the next few weeks. I would still like to work with chameleons but would also like to work with the 3 species of helmeted iguanas/forest chameleons and the 3 (I think) species of cone heads and leaf tailed geckos. We'll see what happens!
