vit A and shedding?

My male veiled seems to be having some lingering skin after a recent shed, the humidity has been up and i mist 3 times daily and have a dripper running.

I was wondering is this could be a sign of a vit A deficiency. I was planning on buying some vit A capsules and putting the gel on a cricket.

I know Veileds seem to always be shedding some part of their body, but he has had some skin on his casque for 4 or so days now and that seems a little to long.

Would administering vit A help with this problem?

(the vit dust i use on my crix has beta carotene in it, should i find one that has vit A because i have read that chams cannot turn beta carotene into vit A, is this true?)

Four days for a little retained shed in a non-critical area (its not cutting circulation to a toe, for instance) is not a long time if you ask me. Continue with the misting etc.

There is considerable debate about Pre-formed Vitamin A vs betaC. I personally never directly supplement with preformed Vitamin A. Never. That's over ten years, with long-lived healthy chameleons.
that said, others swear by using a tiny bit of vitamin A smeared on a cricket periodically. The concern is getting the amount small enough not to cause harm; too much Vitamin A is dangerous, which is something everyone agrees on. My male rarely sheds his casque. If you are concerned, take a little mineral oil and either use your fingertip if he's friendly, or a Q-tip if he's not and apply it to the area that needs to shed.

He may eat the Q-tip:eek:

My guy is not the friendliest :(

So if the skin hangs out for a while in a non vital area its not a concern? I was worried that the skin underneath may turn black and die, similar to what happens to feet of they do not shed properly.

Nope, nothing will happen, especially on the casque since that is skin over bone there. He will be fine.

Your guy will be fine. The reason that can happen to toes or tail tips is because the skin can start to cut off circulation to that area.
