Veiled Chameleon Eggs :]

Hey im new to this forum and looking for a little insight and info on raising Veiled Chameleons. Recently we were given two veiled chameleon eggs for my husbands birthday, and we're looking for tips! The eggs we're laid in a clutch of 21 and within a few months 5 of them withered away with the rest growing strong. They've been incubated at 79 F and in complete darkness with humidity at about 75%, and are coming up on 5 and a half months old! I've been reading and reading and reading these forums all day and night and still feel like i can learn something else! So if you have a little special tip or even info on what to excpect near hatching and after please comment below! Can't wait to hear from you guys!

I would think that you will still have to wait a couple of months longer before they hatch...but sometimes they can surprise you.

As the eggs approach hatching they should get "windows" in them, sweat (get beads of water on the outside of them) and shrink in size. The baby should make an "x" shaped slit in one end of the egg (pipping) and the fluids in the egg will come out as well as the baby's head. (Sometimes the head will go back in part way.) The baby will lay there for some time looking dead/asleep. Its absorbing what's left of the yolk and it can take a short time or a couple of days for that to happen. The baby should then struggle out of the egg. BTW things may progress at a different rate for both eggs partly depending on the spacing of the eggs in the container.

Once its out of the egg it can be removed from the incubation container and put in a small cage with some branches that are small enough for its tiny feet to grip easily and some greenery. At this point the greenery can be fake (well, washed, both sides of the leaves) or real (non-toxic and well-washed, both sides of the leaves). You can see the cage set up here...

You will need to have pinhead crickets or fruit flies ready to feed them and you will need to mist the cage down a couple of times a day. You will need to dust the insects with supplements appropriately and gutload/feed the insects a nutritious diet.
