D3 is what helps your body absorb calcium. Chameleons get it from their UVB source, but since UVB lights are no where near as strong as the sun, we lightly supplement with D3 so we know they are recieving enough. However, they can overdose on it and can develop medical problems from said overdose, so don't over do it. That's why I use it twice a month max.

That is also why it is important that you get them their own UVB lamps, a reptisun 5.0 (tube, not coil) is recomended as it is considered the best. They can be bought on this link for cheap http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/uvb-fluorescent-lights-mercury-vapor-bulbs/.

It is also important that you get them their own cages (screen prefered) and the same site that sells the bulb has some of the cheapest(price, not quality) screen cages around. The female will eventually (as adults) need a 18x18x36 cage (in inches) and the male will need a 24x24x48 cage (also in inches.)

it would be okay ONLY for a week or two to keep them in a cage together at that size. They do need a UVB source asap though.

The reason why they need their own cage is because they are territorial animals and may fight with eachother. One will be bullied by the other one and my not be able to bask or eat and will fall ill and may die. The female will also constaly have to mate with the male and she will become over bred. This constant egg laying puts a strain on the females body and she won't live longer than two or maybe three years ( she could live for 6+ years under good conditions) she will also require a different basking temperature to keep her from laying eggs (they will lay even if they aren't bred with a male, unless special precautions are taken) as every clutch of eggs will shorten her life a little bit. It's just better for them both if they get their own screen cages as soon as possible...
