Depth/penetration isn't your main difference between the two - breadth of exposure is. The penetration depth of UVB lights varies with the quality of the lamp and age of use. As they age, they lose UVB intensity. The image below can't tell you the exact penetration of your specific lamp - you would have to use a solarimeter to test and monitor, but it does show you *how* the intensity of the light forms. For a longer fixture, it would be a similar pattern - same depth but wider exposure. The T5HO's are generally recommended for taller/bigger enclosures because of their penetration capability.
This is a good website - some of the information about specific brands is a bit old, but if you scroll down, you can see the different UV patterns cast by various lights. The amount of exposure (wide and even, rather than a single hotspot) created by the linear tubes is why they get recommended over compacts or floods.

@Venutus1 with Light Your Reptiles is a fantastic resource for all your lighting needs. For the price of that fixture on Amazon, it would be worth talking to Todd about fixtures and bulbs. Even with shipping to Canada, you might be able to get a better quality light system for only a bit more - although the exchange rate doesn't help you right now, unfortunately.
