Uvb Lighting

Hey so I was just wondering. I have an 18 by 36 enclosure and was thinking of getting a linear 5.0 uvb. If I have the linear and the compact 5.0 and use both is that harmful to my chameleon? Thank you.

Welcome to the forum! We’re glad you’re here asking questions! The uvb that the compact uvb bulbs put out only penetrates 2-3 inches from the bulb so I wouldn’t use that at all. It’s important that you do get a T5HO fixture with either a reptisun 5.0 long linear bulb or an Arcadia 6% long linear bulb. You want the light to be at least the width of your cage. Then you’ll want your basking branch at least 8-9 inches below the light.

If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask. Is your enclosure an 18x18x36? What kind of Cham do you have? Most chams require a 2x2x4.

I wouldn't say harmful. Maybe just a waste of resources—at proper basking distance for a linear tube, the compact is even less useful. I would just go with the linear.

Well he’s eventually going to need at least a 2x2x4 by the time he’s 4-5 months old so if I were you I would invest in a light I mentioned above that’s at least 24 inches long and then work on getting the larger cage ASAP since veileds get pretty big.

Thank you so much it’s about 16x16x30 or so. He’s a veiled Cham who is doing really well I just want him to continue to thrive. Thank you.
Buy the 24 inch T5HO fixture you will need it because you have to upgrade him to the larger cage. 2x2x4ft.

Thank you all so much I actually just purchased the 24 inch t5ho lamp today n will be here next week. He is still active and doing good thank you for your help.

Here is how he looks now.
