UVB Light Tube for adult enclosure?

Hello everyone!

I'm preparing to set up Apollo's adult enclosure (just ordered the custom screen cage with the side and back covered, misting system and drainage tray) from a company in spain ( I live in Portugal, so the shipping's really cheap).

Okay, so right now I have a 2 month old 13w repti sun 5.0 uvb bulb.

Is this enough for the adult enclosure (2x2x4) or should I be looking for a big tube lamp?

If so, any place you know we get good prices on lamp and fixture? And how big should the lamp be? 2ft?

I also have a 50w ceramic heat bulb. You believe it's enough or should I be purchasing a higher output one?

Currently his cage is a mix of screen and glass so it keeps his temperatures really good.

I am asking this because once the cage arrives i will be preparing it as much as possible, but since he's living in the smaller enclosure, I cant take off the heat lamp to test.

Thank you very much for the help, I don't want to make a mistake when moving him to his big boy cage :)

Cheers,
Nuno

I would get a 2 foot UVB for a large cage it would cover more area. What are you using the ceramic bulb for? Night heat? I recommend a good digital temp. gun to make sure you are measuring the heat accurately.

Jan, I'm using the ceramic heat bulb to provide heat during the day. Am I doing it wrong? It is plugged to a thermostat so it regulates the temperature to be around 85F - 88F and it is shut down during night time, same as the uvb light.

Any special UVB Light you recomend?

I recommend a bulb that puts off light for basking. I use a regular household light bulb. For UVB I recommend the Reptisun 5.0 or 10.0.

So I should just put the ceramic bulb away? He usually is basking under it, I always thought he liked it :p

I've just read up on the incandescent thing and I'm really thankful I asked the question. I'm now on my way to buy a new bulb for Apollo!

In the long run, it will even run cheaper for me.

Again, this forum amazes me, great comunity and knowledgeble people willing to share without any kind of preconceived ideas about the newbies.

I really have to say, me and Apollo owe you one Jan :)
Thank you very much.
