UVB-How close to babies

How close are you putting UVB to the actual cage floor. I have separated some of the babies into smaller containers since I have some champion eater bossy guys, and it is posing a challenge as far as UVB placement goes. Reptisun 5.0 tubes of course. Two of the containers are 6-7" tall.

Well for us here we suspend our lights about 18" above the tubs. This hasnt posed any issues and the babies grow up just fine with no issues. Good Luck hope this helps.

I did about 15" with the Veileds. So 18" above the floor of the cage? I have heard much closer distances being used. I just don't want to mess up the baby Panthers!

I apologize I just realized your only using 5.0 uvb with that output i would run it much closer. We are using 10.0 uvb which is why we choose to run it 18" inches above. Good luck with your babies. Thanks Karin

Yep-that is what I did too, but since I have moved some babies into smaller tubs, they are not as tall.

I think 6-7 inches would be about the optimum output distance of a reptisun 5.0, If you like to be scientific about it, don your lab coat and fetch your uv meter. Ontop of the tubs or an inch or two above should be fine. As long as its within range for them to be getting the best output possible from your tube.
If you have little branches in the tubs, they will head upwards anyway. be sure they dont reach it stretching up.
