Hi All,

Our veiled male which is actually a female has been going downhill rapidly. She has been sitting in holes for a few days now (cant make up her mind) and has changed from usual colours to pale brown with lime green spots. She has just been rushed to the vets extremely lethargic, and she hasnt eaten for about 3 weeks. She has had calcium injections but we cant get her to open her eyes or take anything. Can anyone suggest anything?

Additional info is as follows:

Cage Info:
Cage Type – “wood” tank, enclosed on 3 sides with 4 ventilation holes (two at bottom left, two at top right) and glass sliding doors at front. 2ft wide, 2ft deep and 3ft high.
Lighting – UVA/UVB strip light at back of tank, basking light towards front of tank. Lights go on at 8am (ish) and go off at 10pm (ish)? Try to allow minimum of 12 hours light.
Temperature – General cage temperature around 22C. Basking light has reached 37.5C (this is occurring more often since central heating being used more) but is usually around 32C. I think we need to get a lower wattage bulb. At night the temp gets down to about 18C. These are monitored with the digital thermometer.
Humidity – Gets misted minimum of 3 times a day, humidity peaks at these times to about 80%. Normally around 60%.
Plants – One large ficus benjamina at the back of the tank which runs the height of the tank, one small bushy Gardenia at bottom of tank. Both plants from a garden centre, said they hadn’t used any pesticides on them whilst they have been there. Plants were ‘washed’ in shower before being planted in tanks. Also has vines and wood to create climbing areas.
Location – Cage is in the corner of the living room, quite low traffic, but is near radiator. High up on table so that top of the tank is about 6ft.

Chameleon: Info:
Your Chameleon – Veiled Chameleon. We have had it for 6 weeks exactly. We believe it is between 5 and 8 months. The markings and heel spur indicate a male, but the recent behaviour has been indicating female. Has had x-ray which shows eggs.
Handling – Not handled very often as gets stressed very quickly and is also very aggressive. Has recently started going for me (in the last week, maybe due to all the attention he’s been having). Used to tolerate my hand in the tank if I gave him waxworms, but since going off the food has not been so tolerant.
Feeding – Has been fed medium silent brown crickets with waxworms as a treat. When we first got him, was taking between 10-16 crickets per day. Crickets would go into a bowl in the morning, and would be removed in the evening if there were any left. The crickets are gut loaded with bug grub, fresh fruit and veg (salad leaves, apples, pears, broccoli) and also have bee pollen in the tank. They also have bug gel for hydration.
Supplements – Crickets are dusted with Calypso dust 3 x week, and Nutrobal 2 x week. Other two days crickets are left as normal. (Please take these in with you).
Watering – Plants are misted at least 3 x day for 3-4 mins. Very rarely see him drinking, but did notice more drinking just before he shed and increased the misting appropriately.
Fecal Description – Usually hard black lump, covered in a white goo, some translucent areas. Most recent poo was quite small and just black. As far as I am aware has not been tested for parasites.
History – All we know is that was bought from Aquasplash, where he was kept in a tank on his own. Would have been kept in a mixed tank at the wholesalers.
Current Problem – eyes closed, no energy.
