Update on the cham

Well I called the pet store Randall came from, and they had me take him to one of their other stores where they have a "reptile specialist". He confirmed the MBD was bad enough that it had begun long before I got him...and he also had a respiratory infection. So, they gave me store credit for another chameleon. Obviously, this is something I'm wary of. They had a female that looked much better than Randall...Could definitely note all the problems when compared. This one was a female (and larger). With the issues of getting egg bound, I'm hesitant to get her. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated on if a female is a good choice or if I should hold out for another male. I've been told contradictory stories (again!) about the females and eggs.

Also, you will be glad to know I am craigslist-ing the exo-terra cage and building a full screen. Also trashing the waterfall and substrate.

I'm really sorry to hear about Randall! My honest opinion is that you purchase a cham from a reputable breeder like one of our sponsors so you know that it's healthy to begin with. Then ask the pet store to give you your money back or change it to a store credit that you can use for feeders etc. I seriously wouldn't trust that store again. It takes quite some time before major symptoms of MBD show because it is a slow growing illness. You might end up purchasing another cham from them with the beginnings of MBD and not even know it until a couple of mos later and then not be able to get your money back. JMHO

FL Chams has some beautiful veiled chameleons

Listen to Jaxygirl, she is the voice of reason in this senario. Use the store credit for dog food, UV bulbs, or whatever other pet supplies you need and get a veiled from a good breeder. It'll probably save you money in the long run just by being healthy.

I will see i don't know if they are going to let me use it for any thing else.
The female is at another store where they have a guy that does there reptiles and also collects them him self. The guy was showing me pictures on his fun of his two very health looking chams. And the clutches his female has laid. Maybe i can go over there today and get some pictures of the female and ask them about using it for store credit.

We also have to reptile shops here in columbus. Captive born reptiles and fins and fangs. neither one of them had chameleons for sale at my last purchase. We will see what happens.

Agreed!

I agree, is the store credit able to be used for other items? Most likely... and if so I would get another Cham from a reputable breeder and then as Jaxy said use the credit for feeders or what ever else you may need..... it could save you more frustration later down the road.

Good luck, so are you keeping the MBD guy or did they take hom back when they gave you the credit? Just curious how they handled that?

They took him back and the reptile guy was going to try and nurse him back to good health. He admitted that their other store where i got him from didn't know what they were doing and he was unhealthy when i got him. Since i couldn't find my receipt the wrote me a IOU for another chameleon is what it say's.
