Ok! So we ventured down to the vet today, and I informed Dr. Friedlander what was going on. He aspirated the worst of the lumps (turns out the right ankle lump is actually two.. I didn't press hard enough to tell at home, and he has a small one on the left that recently developed). The doc said it was an infection, and the abscess was something like a "reptile pearl" that couldn't be lanced in a traditional manner due to being filled with thicker junk. He kept him to remove the right sided abscesses, but Rory didn't handle the meds well; doc didn't feel comfortable keeping him medicated long enough for the left and went with the safer route of waiting. I will be scheduling another appointment to check on his right leg in a couple weeks, as well as deal with the left in a different manner - doing so today would have been too much for the little guy. In the meantime, I am tending to his wounds and administering antibiotics every three days.
Also, per the doctor's instructions, I limited the amount of room Rory has to roam for right now so as not to aggravate the leg. I rigged up a safety net below his favorite perch, moved some vines. QUESTION: Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping him more comfortable with a healing leg? Should I get/make a hammock or something? He really digs his branchy platform, but I was wondering if maybe there was something that would be better for him for now.
Oh, best part of the day: When I finally got back to pick up the little guy, he reached right out for me and climbed - numb and raw with only three usable feet - straight up my arm until I snuggled him to my chest. He DOES love his mama!
