Male panthers color development is so variable, it's mind boggling. Some males progress slow and steady, so you hardly notice the colors coming up. Then you look at some pics from several months ago and think he's really coming along. On the other end of the spectrum, some males will get a big kick of hormones and just light up in 7-10 days. Most males are somewhere in between.
Check this guy out: he's between 6-7 months. His dorsal crest forecast his future colors.
First photo taken 5-9-17, second taken 5-19-17. In neither picture is he flared up:

wow what a gorgeous boy you've got! is that an ambilobe? where did you get him?
 
totally unrelated-- how did you put that little subtitle thing on your post that says "3.2.7 t.q quadricornis......."
