my female veiled chameleon is 7 months in 6 days and her acceptance with me is beggining to show.
i began by teasing her with worms, she'd eat them from my hand anyday but she'd never dare climb on my hand. it took me about a week to get her to climb on my hand completely, she'd usually only go a few legs because i had the worm at a distance. but today she fully climbed on my hand and i showed her around the house. (she hasnt been this friendly since she was like 2 months) and when i went to put her in her cage she took a good 15 minutes before she decided to get on the vine. Now, i only did this to build some trust, nothing else.
But what topped it off was when i sliced up some nectarine and showed her it. She stared at it for a while and she wouldnt go for it. so i approached it to her slowly and she took a big chomp at it!
oh man at first i got scared it was too much but she handled it like a boss. (it was smaller than her crickets so i wasnt too worried, i've just never done it before!)
she seemed to really like it, i gave her another slice like 2 minutes after and she wouldnt stop licking it, it was the highlight of my life. honestly. it was so nice to have an antisocial pet finally stop hissing at you.
normally she'd puff up and do some kind of closed-mouth hiss. but now she just kinda puffs a slight bit, and then she relaxes when she figures out what i'm giving or doing for her.
i dont plan on handling her everyday, i know its not good. it was just that now she'll hopefully be willing to climb on me next time i need to clean.
It's fun, really it is. Totally worth the 500+ dollars i've spent on this animal.
ps: can i feed nectarines? i've never read anything against it so..
