Trouble keeping humidity up

Hello all

We have a 3 month old Ambilobe Panther chameleon who is in a 24×24×24 screen enclosure with a live rubber ficus and pathos and a fake bend a branch and a dowel ramp. We have a 60 watt basking bulb and reptisun 5.0 uvb. The basking temp hovers around 85.

We mist 3-4 times a day but are having trouble keeping the humidity above 50%. Do we have a bum gage or is there something else we can do to keep humidity up?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I see no one has answered you, so I will throw in my opinion.

It can be hard to keep room huimidity up, but you should not be too worried about what the RH is in your room, only the inside of the cage.

What I do, assuming your cage is all screen, is cover the back, and one side of the cage with thick, heavy plastic sheet. You can also use a cheap white or clear shower curtain.
Cut it to size, and use duct tape to tape it all around the frame.

Since you have live plants, and keep them moist, plus misting, your cage RH will be fine.
You may have to cover the back and both sides of the cage. Or cut your sheet so it covers both sides, but leaving several inches uncovered at the bottom.

Do you have an automated misting system?
If you are not home all day to manually mist, I highly recommend you invest in a MistKing system.

Alow the cage to dry completly between mistings.

The RH inside the cage will fluctuate like crazy. I dont even put a hygrometer inside them anymore. But if you mist 3 or 4 times a day, plus put in a dripping system (home made, easy is fine), cover the back and sides, your cage RH will be very high.
Just make sure it's not TOO high, or you risk respitory infection, mold, mildew, and gnats.

You may also want to consider a large capacity whole room humidifier.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)
