translucent/transbald/transwhatever

my knowledge of translucents is limited because my veiled cham budget is ): my question is about the recessive traits and if the translucent whatsits can skip a generation. my holdback male has a transparent tip of his tongue. it looks like a little clear pink jellybean. my other chams dont have blatently odd tongues. i wanted to post a photo, but my apartment is cold and he hasnt been sitting around, slackjawed lately. his "eyebrows" seem to have the pink/whitish look to them and a little bit on the bottoms of the feet. even his nails are more translucent. my wife tells me i'm crazy and thats he's just really cool looking. i'm positive the trait didnt come from the father because 5 1/2 years ago, americans didnt know about the veiled morphs. the mother was much younger, but showed no signs of translucents at all, her coloring was a bit boring looking. like the variation of an anole. so, any chance i might be right and she was just a carrier? i mean, if my holdback does have the trait, its really faint, except for the freak tongue.

I'm no expert, but my guess is you just have a regular veiled and I am guessing that if it had the gene, it would show up somewhere on its body/skin. Even the low end trans. generally have some pigmentation loss on their feet and even if it is slight, you can still see it.

Why don't you bring him by the show in Wheaton next Sunday (12/20)? I will be there (Windy City Chameleons) and I can take a look at him. (...um, and if you are looking for one, I will have 2 male trans. veileds for sale (low end) at that show....)

i think i will, i've been wanting to go and that'd be a good reason for the drive. even if he doesnt have the slghtest trace of the trait and im actually crazy. i'm 99.2% sure you're the breeder who i got my first cham (this one's dad) from you at a NARBC show years and years ago. so i get the chance to show off a grandchild of some of your chams :)

I am 99.2% sure that it wasn't me. :D I don't breed veileds (except I recently bred a pair of trans. veileds and the female just laid 71 eggs last week!! :)). But I would love for you to come with your cham in tow nonetheless!

my bad, i got you confused with another breeder ): i assumed it was you, because the breeder im thinking of sells there too (at least the one time i went to the expo) but i'll still bring orbit jr. by to show off how freakishly huge he is for 4 1/2 months old :D and grats on the HUGE clutch!

Yeah, it was probably Cindy that you got him from. She has been breeding veileds for years. Look forward to seeing you there!

Thanks, Brad - was waiting for you to chime in on this one. :D
