Thinking About Getting A Panther

Hello guys,
I am pretty new to this forum, and have been wanting to get a panther chameleon [nosy be or ambilobe] and I have lots of questions. First off I will give you guys my background, I have kept reptiles for little over 10 years and had everything under the rainbow from skinks to snakes. I had two chameleons "jackson and veilid" back in Texas 4-5 years ago it didn't end will:(.... The jackson my pride and joy, I lost him after a year of getting him for no reason he was eating and drinking great, I am pretty sure he was a Wild caught and a baby 3-4 inches long when I got him. now the veiled he was a second hand reptile and the people I traded a box turtle for him, didn't do any uvb or d3. and it was too late after 4 month of him getting d3 and uvb, he got MBD I tried everything. Even giving water and food by hand, but it didn't help now. After 4-5 years I want to get back on the horse and get a panther.

Now Here's all my questions, since Its a lot more money for a panther:D
Humidity in denver is super low 15-20 in summer and 35-40 in winter is about the highest it stays so how much higher does it need to be?
Where's the best care sheet?
Some people say putting a baby panther 3-4 months old in the full size cage 18x18x36 or 24x24x48 can kill them? Will these cage sizes work for a male?
I know I am going to buy a auto mister is the mistking the best?
Where's the best place/breeder for first time panther owners to buy from? I had never had a live animal shipped?

Thanks you for your help

Welcome!
That humidity when the cage hasnt been misted is fine, they dont need higher humidity like jacksons do.

babies wont die in that size cage. only reason i can think of someone saying that is because they might have a hard time finding food. but if you cup feed them, its not a problem.
adult males need the 24x24x48 cage anywhere when they hit adulthood. so you can doa baby cage then upgrade or just start with the adult cage.

Mistking all the way! I have one to water my 5 chams, and it was the best investment ever.

any of our site sponsors, or forum members is fine.

any other questions, feel free to post!

good luck!

I have a veiled pair, an ambilobe male, and a nosey ? panther (not sure, think nosey be) and a hoenelli. with 38 veiled eggs cooking, they are very very addicting!

I am no expert here as I have just received my first chameleon not to long ago. But I will try to be of some help and I am sure someone else will come along and be of greater help. Humidity is something a chameleon need and I believe people tend to have their humidity for a panther somewhere between 40%-60%. The cage size is something I have read about a few times here some people suggest using a smaller cage so that the chameleon can find their prey but other have housed a chameleon in a bigger enclosure without trouble as well. There are actually sponsors here on the forums I believe they are on the top and you can email them about selection and make a decision from there. The mistking is something else I have looked at myself I will be getting one but I know other people use aquazamp or something close to that and from what I have hear both are great so it is a preference. I hope this has been of some help I am sure someone else will help as well

Hi i also will be getting 2 panther chameleons in about a month(ambilobe):D these will be my first panthers too!! I have 2 veilds 3 bearded dragons 2 snakes and a water dragon!! I would also like to know thisas my enclosures will be pretty big and they will just be babys! Im not sure about your humidity but i will be using a spraying system thats on a timer i think its the best way:)and if i were you...your in us right? I thought panthers liked a little higher humidity than vields?? My veilds are around 50-60% so i thought 60-70 for panthers??
